wow that looks good, especially your panel lines, you're one of the few that's got this right.... i remember when i saw the Vulcan bomber at St Athan, it had no weathering along the panel likes, it's panel lines were clean... it was just sort of dusty and slightly dirty all over; that's all......

Good to see you back. I find I have to finish one kit at a time. If I put a kit back in the box I will never go back to it, it stays on the shelf for years and then gets binned. I looked at the 1/16 scale Sherman, but they are big models and take up a lot of real estate to display them. I think for an Easy 8 a good kit with full interior is the 1/35 RFM offering.
@DoogsModels2 жыл бұрын
I just can't have one kit on the go - I've found it leads to dark places. And yeah, agree that the RFM Easy Eight is pretty nice.

i've got a 1/16 king tiger diorama and it's huge, but it does look awesome on a big scale, haven't finished it yet

And BTW, I've been working on the 1/16 StuG that Andy brought in about a year ago and its been a real slog. I just want to get it done and move on. Last 1/16 armor model I build.

Good to see you back. Can you tell me what model airbrush you are using and is that one you would recommend. Thanks
@DoogsModels Жыл бұрын
My general workhorse is the GSI PS-267. I also use a PS-771 for detail work and a PS-290 for wide area stuff like priming. Absolutely love all three and that's after trying airbrushes from most of the major brands (H&S, Badger, Paasche, Iwata, Grex).

if you want a really "FLAT" flat, go for Hataka lacquer - it does not frost surface as the Tamiya lacquers and feels better to me then the GX113 (which was my favourite before I found the Hataka one) ;-)

Looks great! Do you remember what grit you were using to knock down the carrier film?

1000 I believe

Hi Matt, It's good to see you returning from all of your issues. I hope your life is better. Silly question, when you used the GX113 matt coat what was the ratio of the leveling thinner that you used. I have been a big fan since watching "The Flankoff" You helped me a lot.
@DoogsModels Жыл бұрын
About 1:1 or maybe 60% thinner.
@raymondrosario98932 жыл бұрын
Hey Matt...sounds like you have had a challenging past few months. Glad to see you are back and doing better. Again, great work on the Phantom...every so often, l will look at mine and think...soon...soon. I had a question and if it sounds basic, please forgive me. When you're sanding the decals to remove the carrier film, you're not actually taking it away. Is it just to level the clear coat and blend it into the film? Also what grit sponge are you using? I am guessing 600...a worn 600?
@DoogsModels2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. The carrier film's not going away (unless you burn through it...). But the clear and sand reduces the height difference between the carrier film and surface, effectively hiding it. And 1000 grit.

Again, so good to see you back. A general question, what is the function/advantage of the Rapid Thinner as opposed to MLT or others?
@DoogsModels2 жыл бұрын
MRT flashes faster which reduces spidering and also curves paint somewhat slightly flatter.
@WarpedHorizon2 жыл бұрын
Great to have you back! How did you like the ICM Bronco? Will you do a video on it?
@DoogsModels2 жыл бұрын
Nope - it was for a book/good cause: www.insidethearmour.com/product-page/models-for-ukraine-vol-2-preorder
@DoogsModels2 жыл бұрын
Overall I liked it though. There are a few weak spots - the main gear struts are floppy, the lack of an open canopy is kinda weak - but for the most part it's a well thought out and executed kit.
@CJ-jh9ri2 жыл бұрын
Anybody catch the brand of the scribes Matt used to deepen the panel lines?
@DoogsModels2 жыл бұрын
They're from Radu Brinzan's shop which I think has since closed its doors. Their just like mini PE scriber/file things. I'm sure someone like UMM or whoever has something similarish.

One of the things that makes decals annoyingly obvious is that they're just way too perfect. No blurriness or imperfections. Black is PURE Black. Just too fucking *crisp*. I'm personally trying work around old, bad habits, and include a decal-weathering step to my process to make the decals blend better...
