First map from the Das Teufelswad three map set by Lazlo Panaflex: www.doomworld.....
Haven't played the other two maps yet, but this first map is quite the looker, with an absurd level of detail. Love the creepy face textures, and the MIDI by AD_79 absolutely slaps.
This is my fourth successful run while recording. My other attempts were okay, but I always ended up head butting at least one cyberdemon rocket, which thankfully didn't happen in this run, although I did screw up at 22:08 because I wanted to retreat to the BFG room but the platforms were not yet in place, and I ended up eating revenant rockets for breakfast. Oh well...
Unfortunately I couldn't get 100% kills in any of my runs, as some monsters don't always teleport in for some of the ambushes. This is noticeable after using the IDDT cheat twice to reveal the monsters on the map, where you can see that some of them stay in their original rooms in the top left corner. I did manage to find all secrets, though.
The difficulty of the map felt just right: not too easy, but not too hard to the point of feeling cheap. The only fight that I found "dirty" was the trap with the imps and zombiemen at the beginning, on which I died more times that I care to admit, but it happens so early in the map that it doesn't really matter. All other fights are reactable, and the secrets are very generous (maybe a little too much).
The fight after picking up the blue key at 16:48 was definitely the highlight of the map for me, with the revenants, barons and meatballs, plus a surprise cyberboi to spice things up. Also, that blue room with the moving textures at 16:30 is absolutely gorgeous and I had to do a double take when I got there on my blind run. Cool stuff.
All in all, great map, and I'm looking forward to playing the other two from the set!
As for the controls, this was played with a Dualsense controller with gyro aiming. I've been trying gyro for around a month and I'm still getting used to it, so pardon any weird camera movements. The gyro is always on, and holding R1 disables it for "ratcheting", which allows me to reposition my hands without moving the camera, similar to how you can lift the mouse and reposition it after a big movement.
Since I use the gyro, the right stick is not used for traditional camera controls, and instead is reserved for less common weapons like the pistol, chainsaw or BFG, while the face buttons are for the primary weapons.
While I still prefer mouse and keyboard, after some practice gyro aiming can feel pretty close to it, and I just can't go back to traditional camera aiming on a controller. Gyro aiming is perfect for couch or portable gaming, so give it a shot if you want.
I used the 3D Controller Overlay by Larf Ingshnew to show the controller on screen: 3d-controller-o...
