DOOM 2016 - VEGA Central Processing, but I'm using a keyboard with a joystick

Long time no see. I've had some health issues in the past months that kept me away from the channel sadly. At least I took the opportunity to throw in the dumpster all of my muscle memory and learn how to play with one of those devilish, joystick equipped keyboards (razer tartarus in the present case). I've recorded a bunch of videos on 2016 and I plan to try it out on DOOM Eternal too. I might then upload some gameplay from there as well if I'm satisified, but it's going to be much harder to set it up. Way more buttons to press.
Other than that I will upload some Lies of P videos that I kept unlisted for months, while we wait for the Elden Ring dlc to come out in June.

I did three I think, not that they flow that well nowadays. From my understanding there are 3 major techniques - DKSMS, Holo Swapping, Mod Cancel Swapping - plus some minor ones - triple rockets, explosive shot punch reset,explosive shot cancel and plasma rifle rate of fire swap. I use all of these except explosive shot punch reset because it's only useful in like the first 2 levels. On my channel I covered holo swap, mod swap and triple barrelled rocket launcher, that's how I called it

I've been playing a lot of the 2016 nightmare campaign lately, so it's great to see some high skill gameplay to inspire me to play better. But a joystick keyboard? I thought it was pretty to cool to see you using the Razer Tartarus. Doom Eternal is actually what got me down this path of keypads with joysticks. It allows you to still move while performing combos simultaneously. It is a godsend in doom. I have a Razer Tatarus but l like the Azeron the most as it has a true analog joystick. The dpad on the razer keypad was just too innaccurate for me with only 8 inputs. I also bound jump to a mouse side button so pretty cool to see you make the same conclusions.

I'm currently playing stuff like Bayonetta, Sifu and probably Devil May Cry soon. I'm also going to play Eternal again, hopefully it'll keep me engaged for some time

@@sylar1313 neat, i'm still dragging with bayonetta but it's really fun and the moveset is really varied, very ambitious for a 2008 game imo good luck on going back to eternal! i wonder how it's going to be since they're done with this game, maybe you can find new and guranteed strats at that

DOOM 2016 doesn't really benefit that much from it - I could just put all weapons on my mouse like I did with turbo overkill. I expect Eternal to be much more impacted because the game has way more independent actions and "swap" buttons. Jump, dash,weapon keys, equipment throw, mod swap, punch, chainsaw, flame belch and sentinel hammer even. I feel like when you're using WASD to move you're always forced to sacrifice perfect control in some of those actions

@@sylar1313 fr but I thought It be possible to overcome that if we could learn to do the movement inputs between the timing of the swaps cus I notice since the swap speed of the weapons are not instant you can use the movement keys during the swap animations occur but I totally understand that using a keypad will save you from overloading your hand with so many inputs.

I got put off buying one of these by reports of the software not working and Razer ignoring the issue. Did that ever get resolved?

no idea, it works flawlessly for me. You could also try the azeron, I've heard good things about it but haven't bought it yet

@@sylar1313 love my 2+ year old azeron cyborg. I tried the tartarus for literally a min, not bad but the thumbstick clicking around was kinda annoying so I went for azeron. They both have their pros and cons. That would be far too much for me to type tho.

How are your quickswaps so fast. I know there’s a quickswap rune in 2016, but didn’t know it could be this fast

It isn't, I'm using the hologram to cancel the animations of weapons when I swap them - particularly effective when used on stuff like siege mode. Basically imagine my equipment launcher is CTRL and starting from weapon Q I want to swap to weapon E. Then as soon as I fire Q I just press CTRL -> E really fast. This will completely cancel Q bring down animation. It's something I call "holo swapping"

@@covjeksirena6966 you just need to know DKSMS if you don't already (instant siege mode) and then you can use the video I made about holo swapping. It's not amazing or anything but at least it's thorough. If you know mod swap cancel from eternal that's a thing in 2016 as well, the only big difference is that it actually swaps mods. I use it sporadically on the combat shotgun for style, in reality it's not particularly useful at all

@@sylar1313 Also, for the fast siege mode…do you need to upgrade the mod or is the default one fine for using the tech? Do I need to get faster charge for it?

@@covjeksirena6966 good question I'm not sure. I would say you don't need it because of how the tech works, but I could be wrong
