Embers of Armageddon is way better imo... You have the same sprites but all the different things which made doom 2016 great.. Glory kills and upgrades.. And you can play it with D2016 enemies as well

Yo, D4T is an incredibly in depth Doom 4 mod for OG Doom, it has glory kills, weapon upgrades, and a lot of the Doom 2016 weapons are implemented well.

You should really try MetaDoom because it's in a similar concept to D4V and others but it's EVERY Doom game, including obscure mobile spin offs, some references to ports and even cut/alpha content. It has a lot of effort to detail, easter eggs and for a randomizer mod, it tries to balance its content. It's not perfect but it might as well be the best Doom tribute. It's also the first mod to have that Spider Mastermind spriteset from Doom Delta's DrPySpy.

A few explanations/suggestions: (some of these are technical-related so they might be confusing, but I'll try to explain as clear as possible) +1:41: No. In the original Doom games, killling some enemies have special results (e.g the E2M8 - E3M8 - E4M8's bosses, you have to kill them to complete the map; in MAP07, you have to kill all Mancubis and Arachnotrons to proceed). Those enemies use a special map tag and since the mod removed the "coding" for those enemies' map tags, the fixes are there just to remove them. (doomwiki.org/wiki/Tag_666 - see this page for more info) +The glory kills kind of exist on the fist slot. +From 4:08-5:11: The Scythe review isn't really necessary. +The author didn't make all enemy sprites by himself. +For everybody else, or those that won't bother clicking the pinned link, -The author has since added (mostly) the rest of Doom 4 weapons: Gauss Cannon, Heavy Assault Rifle, and even some Doom 4 multiplayer weapons AFAIK. Many elements (including the enemy behaviors and sprites) were also reworked, so this review is kind of outdated now. This mod is also more than a reskin of Vanilla Doom. -Due to engine limitations, not all enemy behaviors can be recreated (e.g Pinkies' front shield). If you want a fully authentic Doom 4 experience in Doom 1/2, go play D4D/D4T instead. Other than that, good video. I recommend some vanilla-styled source ports like Crispy Doom, PRBoom+ to play this mod. (G)ZDoom may cause some issues, as they don't support the mod's "coding" naturally.

No new procedures or behaviours allowed at all. What they did however was combining vanilla behaviours and procedures in a way that is organic with the monster's 2016 design and idea - Pinkie's rush attack is really a Lost Soul charge for example, they also added some visual flairs like lightmaps via some lightstate trickery that previously was thought impossible on vanilla - those innovations and the fact that it can totally run on a '93 PC are the main brilliance of this mod.

There is a little mod called D4T (Death4Told). It aims for the same goal of replicating Doom 2016 expirience on Classic, but does it a liitle bit better. It actually has weapon upgrades and rune system. And the style of presentation is almost the same as the Vanilla's. In fact, most of Vanilla's sprites were borrowed from D4T and simplified for better compatibility with sourc eports. You should check it out.

If you want the weapon mods and upgrades, check out ARGENT, it's just the Doom 2016 SP weapons with the switchable altfires along with grenades and powerups, though you'll need another mod if you want to use them on Doom 2016 enemies

Does anyone (familiar with modding the original Dooms) know if it's possible to add particle effects with actual lighting and real time shadows or shading casted from the environment or sprites aka enemies and items (similar to octopath traveler or Raw Fury's questionable 'The Last Night')? That mixed with DoF and possibly reflections via path tracing, screen space ray tracing or pure ray tracing would be amazing for these mods or just original Doom in general.

Doom 2016 is like a big budget parody of Doom. Nothing really like the originals in all but name. Enemies don't act right, too agile for my liking, unnecessary upgrades and all that salad, glory kills, crappy level design etc I completed it and kind of enjoyed it, bosses aside, and the multiplayer was fun for a minute.... But it wasn't really Doom to me I don't really think the classics need changing too much tbh but that's just me

They don't however, have Boom or Vanilla compatibility of course. I will agree that it is pretty pointless playing D4V in GZDoom when there are many more options with more features. As someone who primarily uses PrBoom+ most of the time, things like D4V are appreciated.

@@thebecoming4107 I can certainly understand the argument for the mods more simplistic gameplay. I've just seen far too many people compare it to non-DeHackEd D4 mods. Although, to be honest i'm really not a fan of how GZDoom's popularity has resulted in vanilla ports becoming more obscure, the first thing everyone recommends for playing Doom is always GZDoom and it's not at all a good port to start out with for beginners. The more awesome DeHackEd mods the better as it helps make vanilla ports a little less obscure overall.

I played it lately with Scythe, but after 20 or so maps i gave up. Too basic and kinda boring. I dont know if its mappack (which is mediocre by todays moding standards), or mod (which is only vanilla weapons with no upgrades or executions and feels kinda lame), or both. Weapons dont have power we can experience in other mods, gore is also lacking. Some enemies like green fire baron or cyber mancubus have million health and are boring to play against with this arsenal. Sometimes their placement is also pain (Scythe has tiny maps and fighting 2-3 of in small room can be annoying). I dont know, i played this mod without any wow factor. Demonsteele on the other hand (another mod i tried also on Scythe) i just couldnt stop playing and wanted more and more.

Meh, my preference is Brutal Doom over this... This is just a cheap skin remake IMHO... You could port the weapon and enemy skins into Brutal and have a much more refined experience.
