The one thing we need to remember is every thing is relative to the time we grew up in, I am a fan of RPGs and I remember playing all the old RPGs on the SNES and absolutely loved them and still do, I would love to see my kids have the same passion for those games how ever I understand that there are going to be games that they will love that I will think is nothing even close to the games I love, just because I like them doesn't mean they are going to like them.
@kingplutoxiao111 жыл бұрын
Im 16 and was raised on old school games because they were cheaper rather than the new things(IE PS2). Beacuse of this, I have/had a SNES/NES, Genesis, N64, and A LOT of old PC games like Quake/UT99/Counter Strike at a very young age(I was 2 when 4 when I played Quake 3 and CounterStrike 1.6). Without those consoles and games like Doom and Quake and Unreal/UT99/UT2004. I wouldn't be the gamer I am today. Now I play competitively and have much respect for old games and play them all the time.

doom was released in 1993, the first call of duty game was released in 2003. Doom was the first (or one of the first) of its kind. When doom came out, FPS wasn't even a genre of game, but people saw what doom was and enjoyed the concept. For a period of time, anything with FPS qualities was called a "Doom copy". Eventually, it became a full blown genre that became known as the first person shooter. Without Doom, COD would have come a lot later in life, maybe it would never even have come up.

Man... It ROCKS. I play it almost every day and it does not get boring. Online of course. Best way to play Doom online is to download Zandronum source port, install it, place all game .WAD files (DOOM.WAD, DOOM2.WAD, HERETIC.WAD, etc) into Zandronum folder and run Doomseeker from the desktop. You will see hundreds of Doom, Heretic, Hexen and even Chex Quest servers with lots of different mods and gamemodes. I recommend All Out War 2 and WhoDunIt wads. Also try Chillax (hordes of demons. HORDES!)

Andrew Haxley Man, the best parts of Doom were where you were in a big empty room after clearing it out, but you still heard imp noises and zombie groans outside, scaring the Hell out of you, letting you know that you weren't even close to finished. Kinda sucks that the new Doom couldn't be so eerie, but it was still super fun nonetheless.
@andrewhaxley94678 жыл бұрын

All three games are my favorite for different reasons Doom=a Nostalgia factor I can't resist Doom II= More levels, More monsters, higher challenge, darker areas, it's what makes Doom, Doom Doom 3= The ultimate personification of a Sci-Fi Horror genres in video games and really brings Doom's atmosphere to life.
@SilvercattoOsom2 жыл бұрын
Doom = Revolutionary for its time and iconic as hell for the overall theme compared to Wolf3D Doom 2 = A mainstake for WAD creators to make their own mods for the game and share them across the world Doom 3 = Not very memorable, the atmosphere doesn't really make Doom feel like Doom...

I will defend Doom and Id software no matter what trolls and cod players say. I am just a regular video gamer, but this game was really important for fps genre and I will respect it. They were really trying to make this game look best and this is how much you have respect for them. It's sad how people say that call of duty started fps genre, but it didn't and we know that. We all know that. Deep in the heart, I will always love old school games...

This game is 19 years old! Halo came out a full EIGHT years after DOOM. Once upon a time, computers ran an operating system from Microsoft called MS-DOS. DOOM was for this OS. To be fair, Microsoft really, really loves DOOM. Bill Gates himself even made a press release in front of a DOOM background in 1995. Going on that, I think Halo was inspired by DOOM, as was every other game.

@Mr.Atari260011 жыл бұрын
when someone say's SOUND that means the music as well. a sound...of music. & like said, the reason why the sound on the PC version sounded odd is because you have to understand that the CD was very new & expensive. not to mention the development on games back then were more limited which you can only go so far. which that pretty much explains why most CD consoles back then in the early 90's failed because the time wasn't there yet.
@DepthCharg312 жыл бұрын
My point is that just because you don't get what you want, doesn't mean that there's not great games out there. You can't be dense, you should always at least try different things out. In the end though, Doom was amazing, and today, Doom 3 is amazing as well. But now companies focus on money instead of creating a great game. But there are still good games like the ones I mentioned (especially Fallout)

I also think bioshock is a hell of a lot better than call of duty because it has a very deep and emotional story good character development and gameplay. Doom does have a story, scientists on mars' moon phobos and deimos accidently opens the gate to hell and you are sent in to clean the demons out. Doom was released in the days when the story was described in the instruction booklets, but you're either too young to remember or Doom is much older than you.

only on ebay, although it certainly wont run on a modern computer using a modern OS like windows XP (or higher).
