I really love the duality of comic-book universes portrait in this story. How Dr. Manhattan didn't understand how the DC expanded universe worked because Watchmen never got this kind of rewrite or retcons. I have always believed that superman's greatest strength was never his body but his symbol. It's the things that the movies always miss. He is more than just "the Superman". He is the greatest hero to have ever lived because he has a heart and soul bigger than the entire multiverse. He was the first hero and is the one who has always shone brightest. His symbol is nothing less than inspiring and glorious. I hope that this trend of showing how he changes the people around him rather than beating them up continues. That, to me, is his true strength and the real reason as to why he is the greatest hero!

I liked it, the idea that the Watchmen universe is a DC universe where Hope never existed is great and Dr. Manhattan giving them that hope after seeing how much it did for the DC universe is very poignant. Now, wether the Watchmen's Clark turns out to be just as iconic to his universe as Superman is to the DC universe is up in the air but the message itself was great, at least in my opinion.

Since his creation Dr. Manhattan seemed to spend a lot of his time trying to figure out the reason for his existence. All that omniscience and virtually omnipotent power removed him so far from the realm of human existence that nothing anyone did really mattered in the scope of what he was now dealing with. This left him existing outside of time, space and reality itself. A lonely existence with seemingly no reason other than simply existing because it was possible. This absence of purpose validated his apathy, disconnection and feeling of disinterest in the events happening around him; nothing really mattered in the grand scheme that he was now a part of. He didn't understand what he was until he met Superman. I think that Manhattan realized that he was the physical manifestation of a question his universe was asking, "what would a universe without superman be like?" He finally realized that he was a question seeking an answer and that answer was Superman. This is why he took it upon himself to create a Clark Kent to heal his universe. Upon finding its answer a question's job is complete, it is now free to disappear. An eternal life without the need for pursuit is meaningless, he is happy to escape his infinite prison and, in my opinion, rejoin the timeline as Dr. Manhattan the mortal man who lived an insignificant but happy life. I see a lot of parallels to the biblical Jesus/God dynamic. Where upon becoming human and participating in the suffering of life he became less of a cold, distant omnipotent being and more sympathetic to the trials of man. Denoting the transition from the more harsh lessons of the old testament to the forgiving and patient ones of the new testament. I am not saying that this comic an undercover bible study or something, it's not even religious in essence. I do, however, see this as an archetypal story which parallels the lore most commonly associated with the biblical narrative.

Jon must have been traumatised with all the power and knowledge at first. He as Dr. Manhatten simple wasn't ready to take responsibility for the reality, which he was experiencing all the time. Superman was the mirror, where Jon could finally see in himself what he truly was and could then act truthfully to himself.

I loved it. Curious to see what DC does with Rorschach(Reggie Long), Marionette(Erika Manson) and Mime(Marcos Maez) since they are presumably in the main DC universe now. And if we'll get more of the Watchmen universe since we have this new Dr. Manhattan/superman character in the form of young "Clark 'Hollis?', 'Maez?', 'Osterman?'". Even if the latter stays ambiguous as I have made assumptions of his last name I would be OK with it. Congratulations Geoff Johns, what an amazing story and satisfying conclusion.

I think the "bait and switch" thing was clever. IMO it may have been that DM couldn't see past that point because he didn't expect Superman to save him after he would tell him the truth, he saw the ending in black and white, kill or be killed and couldn't see the option of being saved because it's logical for him to think "who could possibly save me" and when Superman did save him it's what inspired him to create a Superman for his own universe, to create the embodiment of hope.

I almost knew that it was going to be one of those bait-and-switch endings with Doctor Manhattan and Superman, I knew Superman wouldn't actually fight him because that's not the kind of person he is. But the very end of the comic did kind of surprised me I almost figured Doctor Manhattan would basically incorporate the Watchmen Universe into DC and just have them there all the time, but he is right every world without a Superman fails but any world with Superman can still fail too

@@maxxavier869 that is actually wrong. The pivotal point of Marvel Universe is actually Spiderman. In the comics most of the villians or people coming from the future don't know about the heroes except for Spiderman. Even cable at one point said (not sure if it was cable but you can google it) in the future every hero will be forgotten except spiderman because he was the only one that saved or tried to save anyone he came across of. In the end he saved so many people that he became a legend told to people as a symbol of hope where everywhere had his statues even after his passing.

I'll have to read the whole thing again to fully catch up with many details that I am now forgetting. The story is superb, brilliant. I was expecting to "see" the anticipated fight between Dr Manhattan and Superman, though, I confess I couldn't imagine any way in which Superman could actually put up with a fight against our blue god. We all love superman, but it was going to be a "ant vs boot" kinda of fight really. So, having said all this, I love the way it developed. Superman using his secret weapon, the only one that could actually affect Dr Manhattan: his hope and his eternal goodness. And he succeed. Yet, I don't fully understand what actually happened with Manhattan at the end, and why he wasn't able to see beyond Superman punch.

I really thought that this story was going to end with Dr. Manhattan v Superman and I was dreading it. But I'm happy they didn't fall into the pitfall of Superman just punching his way out and they instead used Superman's true power. His inspiration.

I'm guessing the prediction of the future is why this took so long. DC will probably follow through on Dr. Manhattan words of the future. So they probably had to create demos of how they'll be moving forward in the future

I think some people believe that other writers were making drastic changes with major superheroes, like Batman and Superman, so Doomsday Clock had to match those in order to maintain consistentcy. This is only what I've been hearing though so don't take my word for it.

But more Interested if there were talks of future marvel/DC crossover. Marvel agrees only if they declare Hulk could smash Doomsday, DC agrees but he must die a glorious death. I think 5G may be where all the replacement heroes come in, Jon being new Superman, new Batman, etc etc.

Of course they will, Dr Manhattan sees all of time. Here he brings a message of hope, the very thing that the DC universe is built on. In every era there will be a bringer of hope, a superman, when we are old, when we are middle aged, and long after were gone superman and his legacy, what he stands for will always be there. Manhattan gave us a glimpse of that. Its gonna happen

That's what they been teasing and only fight was when he stunted on the heroes on the moon. Nothing between Supe and him, which left two OP characters unscathed. New reader for DC comics, so unlike others I don't know how reverting everything will affect stories etc.

Personally, I was ready to see a Superman and Balck Adam throw down. I knew it'll never be between him and Dr. Manhattan. This was a perfect example to show why nobody could be on his level. But I'm not letting that disappointment ruin how great this character development of a story it was for Superman.
