I can honestly say that the best five star hotel I’ve ever stayed at has been in a tent under a big beautiful hemlock tree (rip) With forest water running through a creek nearby. Looks like a very magical place there in Maine.

M/l yes. It was only bad for you when you truly couldn't physically handle it : too much too young, too soon b4 building muscles, bad ways of lifting etc. or sick or injured. I think the American idea that it was all awful drudgery and really bad for you comes from our unique history. Pioneer couples being rather isolated settlers spreading west much further from civilization than would be normal, PLUS not being at all or very familiar with the climate and plants etc. of the new area. Away from community and family support systems, neighbors not necessarily close by & all the stresses of change and newness. Pressures of survival and issues between natives and Americans and outlaws & all the rest, on top of it. You're sick and now you have to go out in the freezin cold to pump water, wash clothes & diapers totally by hand, care for the kids and animals and try to stay warm & dry... . Washing machines, telephones and chainsaws are awesome, too bad mankind fell in love with technology & "progress" & " least labor is always best " foolishly & thoughtlessly, by and large.

We didn't have running water where I lived in the Philippines. We have to go to our neighbors that has well pump to get water, or go there to do our laundry and take a shower and bring home some water we pump. And we walk home. This video really reminds me home. As a little kid carrying a big gallon of water was fun, we did it with my siblings for a decade till we finally got a water connection.

I remember this was part of the drill on our 10 mile force march in military basic training, carrying a 5lb flat water can as far as possible and passing it to the next trainee on top of carrying 130lb of rucksack and M16. It's an exercise in teamwork just trying to hang on and have the next soldier take the can. Yes communication if you want water you have to participate in the process. Some 200', some 500ft.

You all are an absolute inspiration to a whole lot of people. We are not in a tent, but a small cabin. We still need a water pump. You called that a Bisson right? We are working on battery storage for our solar and wind energy. Our greenhouses are up with tropicals and veggies planted in them. Awaiting growth for the tropicals to mature enough to go outside zone 9A to 8B in the Florida Panhandle just north of Panama City. 🙏🙌💜

this is a turn-retur, turning pump. and i kan corfirm that it works in frost. its a common type in a hundred yers upp here in norway . we do tempreatur math i celcius,, and often has 2 ore more meters of snow. that is another type of winter maybe?.. sometimes this pump frees if it hasent been used fore some days, 15-35 blue celcius.. but it always losses upp with a good dose of warm water, some fibers turned araund the metal and a medium bonfier to cook water from snow. problem solved, and no elekrisity. the point is , there is no elektrisity , stil in this areas. so it is stil in use. this pump is a good way to work it around a lot. good video ! thanks! :-)

As a young woman, farming ( a very labor-intensive dairy farm, esp. my role as I didn't want to deal w tractors and field work, was VERY low aptitude for much of it and my dad neglected training and expected everything under the sun to be "common sense" even to a 5 yr old girl ) , I carried 50 pounds quite easily , depending on how it had to be carried, and could carry 100 pounds, a sack of soybeans over my shoulder or 2 sacks of lime in my arms ( not with ease and not very far, and the lime thing turned out to be back for my back, esp. when they were 2 60 pound sacks they sometimes came in, or I did 3 50 pounders here n there - in my early 20s - cuz I could, and we went thru a lot of barn lime and unloading it from truck to where it went in barn was tedious and I loved getting it over w . ) ( my dad was not great with realizing the justifiable need to have around things like a good handcart/dolly & I was rarely anywhere but home and we were poorer at the time still so, wasn't realizing or buying myself ). Anyways, it was bad for my body in the extreme, untrained in lifting right etc. and being a woman & thin and tired, but yes, men used to regularly be at least that strong , even small guys, & I could easily lift a 75 pound calf in my prime My husband's dad was short /small but super strong, worked as a builder and bricklayer, lived off the land mostly too.

Work your way up to it. Get 2 pails, balance, and start carrying things. Or doing pushups. I'm from a dairy farm & fed calves as a kid which involved 2 full ( within 2 inches of top ), or full as we could at 1st, 5 gallon pails of milk or water out to calves in hutches outside, from the milk-house way down the other end of our long dairy barn ( few hundred feet or so ? ) , around the heifer shed, across the driveway and another many feet across a sloping area. Made to carry with sister by putting pipe or stick under handle and 2 carrying one pail, or other variations. Using the little red wagon was best, holds 3 pails if offset them, but hard to keep from tipping over on that slope, across rocky, rutted driveway at times. Anyways, by time was 14 I regularly carried 2 full pails of milk around, going back for more & for their other feed from granary . I could basically trot ( aways, not long distance ! ) with 2 full pails of milk by my late teens. By the time my youngest brothers were teens, they had a 4 wheeler, but in my time, I had to carry a lot of heavier stuff all over our spread-out on-a-ridge farm, and up, down & across hilly pastures and fields. It would've been a luxury to do what I did just on level ground ! ( was super beautiful tho, and I detest the look of flatlands now ).
