I'm doing my first run as Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho. That means double whips and potentially poison. I've been using lightning and wolf summons since there's no fox, so creative liberties. My final build will swap lightning for poison for sure. Also yes, I intend to get magma whip candle and red braid too.

Maybe as a backstab animation it could be where you rap the whip around the enemy's neck and pull

That would be the most logical animation for a whip critical, but it wouldn't really work for large enemies, just those that are relatively close to he player size (this is probably why it doesn't have a critical animation, they'd need to make specific animations for specific fights as opposed to one blanket animation like the other weapon classes)

Agreed! i think the reason why they don't is because the animations for weapon class are universal across enemy sizes, but whips would change that. This video made me try whips. Though I powerstance them and also have a dagger to riposte so I'm playing on an "easier" build. So far 8 hours in, I only beat Margit and Godrick as well as Leonine Misbegotten from Morne, Farum Beastman near your favorite test dummy Jeff and Golem in the Blue Dancer charm cave. Honestly, I'm impressed despite the slow progress because like I said in a different video, I relied on Tiche and Rivers of Blood in my first playthrough so it's basically just a DPS spamfest. Now I actually have to learn the moves properly. And on a final note, I want to do Frenzied Flame ending. Oh Lord the Leyndell sewers are gonna suck. I avoided it like the plague in my two other playthroughs 😅 Sorry for the long essay. Hope you don't charge me extra haha

So in general yes, and this is what myself and others think would fit but the problem is it doesn't work for non human sized enemies. Looking only at riposts, large enemies don't make sense for that to work, like. Imagine wrapping the whip around a dragon and yanking it to the ground, idk if from would be okay with that continuity because suddenly your tarnished has the strength of a thousand gods lol I'm willing to bet the reason they don't have a critical is because it would involve making an animation for every different enemy class size. If you look at other weapons the criticals are all the same within their class. A thrust, a bonk, etc, but for a whip you could do the neck wrap, but how does that work with Elden beast who's weak spot is his stomach ya know? In short, yes I like it but I don't think it'll work. Sorry about the book response lol
