Door Dormer - Modular Home #38

We have a dormer over the front door that has been installed after the house has been set. This was one of the most time consuming parts of the install because it rained right in the middle of the build.

It does add a lot to the look, excellent choice. It's a gabled dormer. A dormer is a protrusion from the main roof slope. The shape determines what type. Peaked like this is a gable dormer, flat and sloped downhill is a shed dormer, peaked and the front is sloped not verticle and shingled instead of siding is a hip dormer, a curved one is an eyebrow dormer.

I'd call that a gable a dormer typically sits higher up on the roof. Looks great!

That will come in handy during snow season, because the pitch will keep the snow from building up the main entrance to the house.

AS others have said I would call it a Gable End rather than a dormer but it does make a big difference to the look of it.......nice

+Michael Collinson we like it a lot. I have also noted another benefit and that is in very heavy rains some spill occurs over the gutters, not much but some, and this Gable end Dormer does not have that issue.

Technically this isn’t a dormer it’s a porch roof. There is a difference it’s not just technical jargon

dormer is right. it does add night look to any roof. some even put in faux windows. how long is this house?

The house is 76 foot long. SO adding that Dormer has made a big difference in breaking up that long roof.

I thought it was around 75ft. I was trying to count the rafters and figure 24inch on center roughly would make it around 70 to 80 feet. looking good.

A dormer is contained in the roof construction. This is a gable porch roof!!

I sure will. Actually I am filming some of that build today. Getting the posts set. As for green house we will see after I have had a garden for a year. Thank you for watching. Another week to go at least.

Out of curiosity, how long did it take to build the dormer?

+tallman11282 it took them around 3 hours. With the rain in the middle. Compared to the other setup steps this single step took the longest.
