This video is a great demonstration of what it takes to be a KZbin star. Hard work, technical expertise, good hardware, a voice which is pleasant to hear, a sense of humour and an ego which is under control. The editing here was complicated, mixing in stills and video, but it all seems to happen effortlessly. If anyone has got half a mind to make some stuff for KZbin watch Techmoan. It takes more than half a mind to do it well.

Here is some technical aspects: the button contains a STMicroelectronics STM8S003 microcontroller and a Texas Instruments CC115L 433MHz low power radio transmitter. The receiver have a matching radio receiver, decoder and music playback circuit. When the button is pressed, the button mechanism actually functions as a generator to power the transmitter circuitry using the energy from your finger pressing it. It then sends out a broadcast including some kind of identifier code. The receiver listens to that frequency, check if it have received a code that it recognizes, and rings the bell when it have picked up a code it should respond to. The pairing process allows the receiver to know what code(s) it should resond to.

Thanks for the detailled photos, they look really nice. I can see from them that the door button consists of a ST-Micro brand "STM8" microcontroller and a Texas Instruments CC115L "Value Line Transmitter" They actually don't need to use different frequencies but they use unique codes for each button. The transmitter can easily transmit 4 bytes in basically no time, that would make 4 billion codes. The 4 pads near the microcontroller are most likely the contacts they use during production to program that unique number into the chip. I can see a red limiting diode, a rectifier black diode and the yellow capacitor used to store the charge from the button push. Also a little chip with inductor to convert the voltage of the coil into something stable that can be used by the 2 main components. Very neat design.

433,92 MHz is a pretty popular frequency for random wireless domestic things. You have these wireless utility switches/relays that work on the same principle: when you press a button it first sends a code, and then the state. The receiver just continuously listens and when it gets a signal, it compares the code to the one programmed into the device (or set at a later date) and then executes its function. I have my home full of these wireless transmitters and receivers, and with a transceiver connected to a server (for example rfxcom) I can switch lights and other things on/off via the internet, program them on timetables and all kinds of fun stuff. Sure the security is negligible (since it's just a code that is being sent that anyone can pickup), but it makes for a fun home-automation project.

I swear now after watching many of your videos, that you have either been involved in broadcasting or production of some sort. No complaints about that, it would just testify as to the calibre of the videos you put on KZbin. Anyway, on the bell push generator, it's just an electromagnetic generator, but it's interesting that it can power that much electronics with such a short duration of power generation :) lots of windings in the generator coil I guess. Perhaps they're down converting a highish voltage spike to a lower voltage but more current. Hmmm...

"Copying water gauge" is actually a Chinese joke as the manufacture is Chinese. Basically in China every end of month there will be a guy from the water supply company going to your house copying the water gauge readout and determining how much you have to pay for your water.
@roceb5009
@roceb5009 6 жыл бұрын
shuo feng we have a similar setup here in the States, but we would say the guy from the water company comes around to *read* your water meter not *copy* it. If he copied it, that would mean like he really likes yours, so he makes one just like it for himself. Also, it still doesn't make sense. Why does he have to knock on your door, why doesn't he just walk up to the meter? Is he trying to supplement his income by selling cosmetics door to door or something?

Chances are they are all working on the same radio frequency, but transmit a binary code that is stored in the flash memory of one of the units. It is trivial to generate a random number that will give the individual units a very low probability of being repeated in the same neighbourhood.
@hikaru-live
@hikaru-live 6 жыл бұрын
You can just grab a RTL-SDR, optionally with a low-noise amplifier add-on, and listen on the frequency the CC115L chip generates. You would get a list of codes after a few days of monitoring the airwaves. Now you can build your own transmitter using the same CC115L chip, but with a RF power amplifier and some way to attach either a computer or a user interface added on it (can be as simple as a USB microcontroller like ATmega16U2 or STM32F042.) Now you can annoy your neighbours by ringing their bells without going near their houses.
@klauspetersen8593
@klauspetersen8593 6 жыл бұрын
Makes sense however I think they would just assign them an incremental id number or one of a predetermined set of random numbers during the programming stage of the production. Many ways to do it, but a completely random number would sooner or later cause two bells having the same id number.

I waited for this video and it's here - Great! - Technically, it's still the same frequency - It just changes the code that is sent. The two chips in the product is a "16 MHz STM8S Microprocessor" and a "CC115L cost optimized sub-1 GHz RF transmitter" - The transmitter chip can be programmed for different frequencies for different parts of the world where the regulations differ a bit. I'm pretty sure that yours are operating in the 433-MHz ISM-band. I'm really glad that you showed the '"generator" as this bit interests me a lot. Quite interesting to see a coil and magnet in stead of a piezo-element!
@peterpv0001
@peterpv0001 8 жыл бұрын
Actually, they all do use the same frequency (see the manual !) the code they send (it's just a sequence of pulses) makes the receiver able to distinguish your doorbell from the neighbour's ! Your sense of humour is typically British, I like it :-)

Honestly, one of my favorite videos of yours thus far. And I'm fairly certain I've watched damn near all of them. That big coil makes me think it's actually just a regular induction-based generator, not a fancy piezo setup. Still though, could really use +bigclivedotcom 's help in interpreting the exact principles of operation.

Although that power generation tech isn't new or particularly special I've never seen it used like this before so I'm actually quite impressed and appreciate the closer look, I can think of many other applications where not having to worry about the batteries would be more than welcome. Not that it really bothers me but I expect that the generator is actually less damaging to the environment than just one battery (based on materials) too.
