Pt' Ram Chatur Mallick and Pt. Syaram Tiwari were named in respect of Gaya's way of singing thumri. I like to mention here that the two named singers were known as the greats in Dhrupadang style of Hindustani Shastriya Sangeet and known to belong to Darbhanga gharana but both could sing khayal, thumri, dadra, chaiti, kajri as well as bhajans with equal mastery. They were closely related also. Pt. Baldev Tiwari, father of Pt. Siyaram Tiwari was a celebrated singer of light classical music and belonged to GAYA gharana with his home at Nawada, a sub-division of Gaya District during his lifetime, but now a district.
