The umbrella is good because when it rains, the black part will get soaking wet. When you put it in your car, the red part is showing so the water doesn’t get all over this inside of your car. It stays in one spot because the water is on the inside of the umbrella... it works, my family has 3... don’t ask 😂

The umbrella is to hold water inside so you don't spill it inside the building. You can catch the water in, step inside and pour water outside.

Also, as he mentioned, it prevents the umbrella from being destroyed by high winds. A traditional umbrella folds the other way, so a large gust of wind and invert it and bend or break the metal rods, which makes it unusable. When a large gust of wind hits the underside of this one, it just essentially closes itself without damaging its structural integrity.

The inverted umbrella is meant to open more conveniently if you were behind a door, say, in a car. Because it's inverted, you can open it when sitting in the car and just have the umbrella outside so that you won't get wet. Check some videos about it and you will see.
