decisive battle with my brand new slower playstyle against 4wide. winning means relaunching the salty cup, losing means completely giving up on first place.
for sure i wanted to remove my bad performance from the end of the previous match where i threw all the three last midgame rounds. and i did!
first time i ever defeat his 4wide, although he choked quite a lot like the first match.
whether there was lag or not, you have to adapt to it like i did, and not fight it head-on.
ever since i started to slow down and think about my placements, i became more confident about what i've done in these tournaments matches.
winning doesn't mean anything though! it's all about goal average, assuming no one loses. and it's definitely not going to be easy either.
thanks to mat1jaczyyy for recording vid!

The reason Wumbo lost was because he failed to adapt in the end. In a fight, both fighters must constantly adapt to their opponents counterplay, and it ends up being this constand back and forth. However, despite the fact that 4w just wasn't working anymore, he kept doing it. The right thing to do to intercept a 4w is with an all clear, which Doremy did. But to counter a perfect clear, you need to send a small burst of damage. But to counter a small burst of damage, a 4w can be adapted. But this didn't happen. So there ya go.

All clears are the counter tactic that were specifically throwing off Wumbo's center 4-wides, not just "strong fundamental play." @@Kitana___ it's technique in Tetris where you leave a 4 wipe gap in the middle with 3 pieces of over hang to build off of and constantly get singles and build up combos. The most viable counterplay for 4-wides (outside of a 4-wide of your own, of course) is pressure. You can either KO them if they are using the regular 4-wide, or prevent them from building huge towers for center 4-wide (unless RNG is a harsh mistress and places all the garbage holes in the center).

great job doremy the pc luck was on point it was not the main thing but im shur it helped alot but your speed and timing to survive the 4 wide and then when that happened your intelligent t spin set ups and thought threw down stacks and we the pc didnt work adapting and still liveing some games was impressive something wombo does not have as much of because after a 4 wide it seems you dont have much room to play other then basic t spins and and tetrises and those still take time so good job now go and win

I don’t see why people hating on wumbo for 4w (I do think editing vods is kinda petty but) it’s a solid technique and mechanic that even amemiya uses.
@Trades46
@Trades46 4 жыл бұрын
Wumbo's 4w are intensely powerful, but you seem to have found a good counter for it. I feel like you're a better more flexible player than Wumbo is, since he almost relies exclusively on 4w to do damage when you & other pros (Amemiya & Rivclia) can still pull off T-spins to setup counters.

The goal is to win, right? So why is it so bad that wumbo is using c4w? In a real life battle, why wouldn't you use everything you have to your advantage? His advantage is that he is really good at c4w. His disadvantage is that he doesn't adapt. Doremy's advantage is that he can counter c4w effectively. His disadvantage is that he does play just a bit slower so he can be beaten through speed. They are both great players, but one was just better than the other this time

Why don't you learn/do 4wide as well? Only vs wumbo if you want
@Miminitinumitumun
@Miminitinumitumun 4 жыл бұрын
Personal reasons, likely, since Doremy's stated before that he doesn't like 4wide but also cause it's not a guaranteed victory sometimes and 2 people 4widing can end up becoming a stall play as neither player is willing to initiate their combo. There are a few matches of Wumbo vs Amemiya on both of their channels that show matches that start with neither of them doing anything and just stalling out pieces for as long as possible. It's boring as hell.
