Your prayers and concern are appreciated! Everywhere has some sort of natural disaster to potentially face and none of them are easy to deal with. Quakes give no warning, tornadoes, usually very, very little -- Hurricanes generally give you a lot of warning, but can change their tracks, increase greatly in strength or as Dorian is doing, remain stalled in one area for hours or even days. My concerns are more for all the people in the Bahama's --- the islands are fairly low lying and their infrastructure can be very fragile. As well, so much of their economy depends directly or indirectly on tourism and it can take a long time to recover from a bad hurricane, let alone a monster like Dorian. At least here in central Florida, we have some buffer from the worst of hurricanes, generally -- Though two years ago, Irma did a fair amount of damage to our area.

@@bilbobaggins4710 The good thing is Freeport s well built to withstand hurricanes, and there are shelter scattered across the island. I'm hoping that will limit the loss of life on the island. I don't know how well the cruise ship port will stand up to such a massive sea surge, and it will certainly require dredging to restore the depth needed by the deep draft cruise ships. Tourism, largely from cruise ships, is a major contributor to the economy of the Bahamas. I fear it will be a long time before that's restored.

I’ve been wondering why the storm is stalling so much and you just explained it perfectly. I’m subscribing... I live in south Florida so I’m definitely coming back to this channel if were threatened by another storm. I’m glad we were spared but I feel terrible for the Bahamas 😔

What is keeping the storm from reintensifying when it gets over the gulf stream?
@Mike011295 жыл бұрын
I can't say with certitude, but would guess increased interaction with land and perhaps cooler air being drawn in and upper level wind shear from the trough coming in from the NW.

between the land and how the gulf stream is running through Dorian making the waters a lot more colder then normal might be the cause of this because it is stalling on the gulf stream right now.

I'd never heard of Tropical Tidbits until right now. His explanations, arrows, lines, laid back delivery etc. are outstandingly brilliant in their simplicity. Well done sir!

Best update explanation of a storm I've seen in a long time. Very good job.

wholly crap. I can't imagine what it's like for an island to get grinded by 200mph sustained winds for 2 straight days.
@vivians93925 жыл бұрын
Hopefully, reports indicate wind speed is down, which happens when they encounter land, but the islands are so small!

185mph winds 240 gusts. Rips aluminum shutters off the windows. It was also slowly weakening over them for those 2 days. So it was like sitting in a EF5 tornado til the winds died down to an EF4.

Good to hear what's actually happening now instead of what's going to happen in Florida by weather channels
