Thank you so much for posting this video! When I visited I wasn’t allowed to see what the bathrooms looked like and I was so curious because I’m still not completely sure where I’m going next year

I moved house/apartment a few times (W. Freemen, S. Poplar, Mill St)... before my last at the Baptist Student Center (wonder if it's still there). Nice place and beautiful campus.

Great video. I lived at TP in the 1990's. SIU was more crowded then. The place looks the same, more or less.

Thank you so much! And it really depends on what your looking for, if you want distance then University Hall or Neely (Tower) is for you. If you want to be closer to campus then Thompson point! The dorms are all very similar to each other the only big difference is the type of flooring! Also if your interested in an LLC that would be great too, that is basically living in a building with people who share the same major! :)

As a mom of a transferring in student... do you provide your own toilet paper? It's probably a crazy question but I noticed that you have a lot of extra. 😊 great video btw

Thank you so much! And yes you have to provide your own toilet paper! But there is one community bathroom in every building on the main floor which always has toilet paper in it!

Is that the only two positions for the beds? Is there any in between setting to loft but not as high as a bunk bed?

I actually did orientation with a tour of campus and one of the dorms a few days ago! You can move the beds around as you please and also raise them to varying heights. It’s pretty manageable and all depends on what you want, though some people keep the beds higher up for storage or desk space.

Hey Jodi! Just as Matti pointed out you can choose how high/low you want your bed and if you want it lofted or not. Since SIU now allows students to have their own room you can choose how both beds are placed. (Together to make a queen, separate, bunked, etc.) :) Let me know if you have any questions.

This is what they call a double room (usually what students get) you will have the whole room to yourself unless you decide to get a roommate.

Hey I'll be at SIU next fall. Do you know which dorms on Thompson point aren't llc's. I wanted to go to Kellogg but my roommate is a different major.

There is a list of the new LLCs for Thompson Point online on siu’s website. I’m not sure which in particular aren’t LLCs but if you wanted to stay in Kellogg but you want to room with someone who is a different major you have to get special permission from the two people who are the heads of the building, you would email them and wait to hear back. But you only have to do that if the building is an LLC. For example Kellogg is an LLC for MCMA majors so you need special permission

Do all of the dorm room have bathrooms like that or is that special to your building? Also if you don’t mind me asking, how much a year it is to live in a double in that building? Thanks!

All of the double rooms have that exact layout and bathroom, the triple room bathroom i’ve heard are smaller based on the friends that i have that live in triples. And no problem, the price for a double and triple are the same price in every building which is $5311 per semester (which is $10,622 per academic school year.)

when I took a tour of SIUE, they told us you weren't allowed to have a microwave because it's a fire hazard (?)

What do you mean at 6:50 when you are talking about the LED lights and say "you can't have the ones with bulbs"? Are neon wall lights allowed? I'm coming this fall to Neely and trying to shop RIGHT NOW.

So basically that lamp is LED which means it doesn’t have a bulb in it, you aren’t allowed to have bulbs in your lamps. But i have the string christmas lights around my room which are fine. There’s a list of things you can and can’t have on the housing website!

I wouldn’t say all types aren’t allowed but lamps especially aren’t , check the website it’s very helpful.

@@MackenzieMarie So NO types of light bulbs allowed at all?? I'm on the Resident Handbook site right now and under R) PROHIBITED ITEMS it just says "Lighting: no black lights, halogen lamps, lava lamps, oil lamps and strobe lights"

Then all other lights are ok to have! I just know last year when i moved into the dorm the housing staff said we were not allowed to have lava lamps or lamps with bulbs because of a fire hazard. But i’m sure you’ll be fine with whatever you get! Some rules change as often as each semester.

what is the laundry situation at SIUC and would you recommend bringing a bike, skateboard, car, etc... to get around campus?

So before, SIUC had 3 washers and dryers per building for everyone to share. It use to cost students $1.25 per wash or dry load. They also have 10 washers and dryers at the bottom of Lentz dining hall (west campus dining hall) which also costs $1.25 per load, (which is where I usually went because the ones in my building were always in use). But I heard that next year washing and drying will be free to all students. The setup will still be the same which is three washers and dryers per building but it will be free instead of paying per load. Supposedly SIU is charging us a one time fee at the beginning of the year in our student fees. But I am not to sure about that you may want to contact housing to name sure!
