Fun fact: They are not mice. (like gerbils are not move either) although they belong to the rodent order. As far as I know the name comes from french "dormeuse - sleepy" from "dormir - to sleep", so it's a misnomer.

I love rodents and mice specifically. I had an imaginary one as a toddler and collected mice everything as a child. But only as long as they are not in my house. @marcelthoma8890
@marcelthoma8890 Жыл бұрын
In German the you would say "Bilche" or "Schläfer" for the whole family Gliridae. The small brown ones are Hazel dormice = Haselmäuse (musacardinus avellanarius). The bigger ones (around 15 cm) are European edible dormice, or European fat dormice = Siebenschläfer (Glis glis). They were eaten as delicacy in ancient Rome. It's fur is more grey. There is still the Garden dormouse = Gartenschläfer (Eliomys quercinus). It has a typical "mask" on his face and is in between the size of the edible dormouse and the hazel dormouse.

Here’s some fun facts about different types of dormice!: Hazel dormice) threatened to go extinct and are one of the most protected species in the UK African dormice) banned from being shipped to America in 2003 due to suspected connection with the monkey pox outbreak Edible dormouse) named for the fact that they were used as food. They actually have a lifespan of 13 years which is suuuuper long in rodent terms. This is because they can regrow telomeres. Losing telomeres is the main reason why “aging” is a thing. They’re literally able to keep their bodies from getting old with age and live over twice as long as other dormice!

Here in Spain we have the expresion "Sleeping like a dormouse" for when someone has sleept well, so yea, famous for Sleeping. (We also have a dormouse species called Garden Dormouse, but in that spanish is called Masked Dormouse, because they have black markings arround their eyes, like a mask)

And since they are night active it's not nice if you want to 😴 and they are running around inside the walls 😂 trying to convince mine they should please move to the stable or on the trees 😉 at least they sleep 7 months in winter 😊 but if you still want 5 you're welcome to come and pick them up 👍
