I’ve been trying to find this episode forever. I’m from Philadelphia and this is where I discovered Andrea McCardle. I’m not even sure I knew of Annie at the time or even what Broadway was. Then Andrea sang Tomorrow on this show and I was blown away. I wish that part was included in this part. I guess I had never seen someone my age have this voice and talent.

@@hurttoy29 I heard that too. Heard that she wanted the kids and dog kept far away from her backstage. This may just be a nasty rumor but I did watch something on KZbin where she had won her Tony Award for this (Andrea was also nominated for the same award but lost to her) and Ms. Loudon did not even say 'thank you' to Andrea or mention her.

@dmnemaine4 жыл бұрын
There may be a video recording somewhere, but probably only for archival purposes. The original cast recording of the music is available.
@tomorrowmorning83603 жыл бұрын
Wasn’t common in 1977 to videotape Broadway shows for commercial viewing by the public. Still isn’t common today except for special broadcasts but even less so back then when the technology was a lot more expensive and cumbersome, and very few households owned the proper tech to watch video. Probably the biggest reason it rarely happens is the impact on ticket sales. Annie’s original run might have lasted years longer were it not for the 1982 movie. I read there was an archival copy of a videotaped performance from the original production at the NY Public Library at one time. I wonder if its ever been digitized. It was not this original 1977 cast though.
@matthewbennett99283 жыл бұрын
There were definitely be in archival recording in the Library of Congress which you could only do one time and you have to present wanting to view it. Filming's of Broadway musicals for commercial viewing was very uncommon back then and still sort of is although it happens more now than it did back then. Typically when a Broadway show is filmed live it's usually a broadcast done specifically for television much like what you see with the NBC musicals. Annie will finally be filmed live but it will be a broadcast made-for-television on NBC.

I wonder about the stories of her hating kids in real life and not loving all the orphans running around backstage. Andrea says Dorothy wasn’t a fan of children but that the two of them got along quite well. A bit ironic if she hated children and her breakthrough show was Annie.
@snopesshop19033 жыл бұрын
@@tomorrowmorning8360 I have it on good authority that she was awful to the kids, as you can see in the video, she seems a bit unstable. But an amazing talent who helped make the show a success. Andrea is just charming in this video.

@Brinta310 ай бұрын
I don’t see any disrespect at all, and I’m sure that saying “little one” to a child was perfectly acceptable back then. This was 46 years ago!
@EastSide-qc5oy6 ай бұрын
Andrea was about 13 here and it wasn’t considered disrespectful at all to refer to a child or teenager that age as “little one.” Mike Douglas, like Merv Griffin, was a supporter of Andrea’s talent and early fame and had her back on the show more than once. There’s no disrespect. And he didn’t ask her how she was doing, in some condescending way. He asked her how long she planned on staying with the show and it was a sincere question.
