hello, I just want to say thank you so much for these videos! Question, when I was reviewing the first question, mine says 5.0 (0.5*1=.5 and 1*0.125=.1, so I divided it as .5/.1 and got 5.0) for tablet, but the answer she got was 4.0, as I recalculated mine to end up with a 4.0 tablet.. means she calculated it as 0.5/0.125? do we not follow the numbers we came up with before we divide? I'm a bit confused.
@NursingSOS
@NursingSOS Жыл бұрын
@maribelsmith58 are you reffering to the question with the medication Digoxin? You would divide 0.5mg (our order), by 0.125mg/tablet (what we have on hand), to end up with only tablets (the mg cancel out) and you would get 4 tablets. You wouldn't do any rounding until the very end. I hope that helps clarify it for you.

Hi, I recently started watching you videos because I am a new nursing student, started in August. Its been overwhelming to say the least but watching your videos has been giving me a sense of calmness. I just took my first theory and dosage calc/basic math exams today and unfortunately I didn't do as well as I was hoping on the dosage calc (waiting for my results on theory, hopefully I did great). I literally sat in my car crying and praying to God that this is not the end of my nursing career/dream. To see that you posted a video on dosage calc today is sign to not to give up and keep pushing and practicing! I plan on taking as much notes from this video and practicing because I do believe I should've spent as much time studying dosage calc as I did theory, but I dont want to dwell on the past. I want to move forward and practice and study for my next exam. Please keep up the good work. It is very much appreciated. have a blessed day!

I just a little bit "confused". The statement said "The order is written to run 75ml/hr? and when you calculated you said "ordered" is 50 000 U/1000ml. Is that what is available on hand or pharmacy send?

I’m sure you’ve found out, but as long as you cancelled out the units until you get the desired units in the end. It’s most likely the right since the desired units are set in stone in a particular way.

I been nurse for 7 years and recently change facilities. The facility requires you to pass a med calc test to complete orientation. I forgot the steps on how to arrive to the answers. I watch both of your med calc videos and was able to pass a pop up med calc exam. Thank you! A short video that gets to the point and teaches you to arrive at the correct answer!

Hi, for the answer to the third problem. 31.25 gtts/min do we not round up? 31.3? or do we only round if the question is asking us to round? I'm confused when it comes to rounding & when we are suppose to do it? Thanks :)
@NursingSOS
@NursingSOS Жыл бұрын
Victoria Trotta, if it specifies you would round to what it is asking for, but if it doesn't specify you would follow your programs rounding guidelines, typically you will round to the tenths or hundredths place unless otherwise specified.

In the first problem, it always throws me off because I think something needs to be done with the time ..”every 6 hours”. How do we know when to use the hours/ use only the needed information to solve the problem?
@NursingSOS
@NursingSOS 3 жыл бұрын
De'ja Griffin the first step is to find out what you need, what is the end unit that they want you to solve for. Then step number 2 would be to find out what is ordered. Then you will need to go from what is ordered to what you need using the information that you need in the question. Often they will include extra info in the question to try to throw you off and make sure you know exactly how to do the problem, so reading through the problem carefully first, then crossing out any information that isn't helpful or necessary, and identifying the information that is pertinent to what the question is asking you to solve for. I hope that helps clarify it for you! If you have any more specific questions we are always available through email at hello@nursingsos.com

Hi everyone. Question, why are we not rounding to a whole number? We cannot give a partial drop. I thought rule 5 was round appropriately? How do we give 31.25 gtts/hr or 166.67 ml/hr
@NursingSOS
@NursingSOS Жыл бұрын
@cripticz24, yes you are right we would need to continue rounding to the nearest whole number for the gtts/minute question, thanks so much for bringing that up! For the ml/hr that can be left as a decimal unless otherwise noted by the question or your facility policy.
@karlirodri19
@karlirodri19 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, thank you for this video. For the drops per minute, aren't we supposed to round to a whole number? So the answer for the first drop question would be 31 ggts/min.
