I totally agree with you I thought it was just me being slow I didn't understand a thing the teacher was telling me but yet I came here and watch a 12-minute video and understand perfectly everyone learn differently their different road's to get to the mall you choose the route that's best for you as long as you end up at the right place there different ways to do dosage calculation the main thing we all get the same right answer. One person can fail EVERY test, remidiate, and pass the school while I'm spending all my little extra time studying and getting B+/A-, getting 3hrs of sleep while they even say they dont bother studying lol

I'm a student in pharmacy technician as of 3mos ago. I'm learning on my own because I didn't have the 20,000 that the closest college is asking me for to teach me how to be a cpht. I bought the three books online and I'm learning so much from KZbin but I'm trying to find the right teacher and I think that you are it! I live in Arkansas so being certified is NOT required to work in a pharmacy just being registered with the pharmacy board. I am with you on doing this with regular dimensional analysis. Our school is showing it to us using cross multiplication and we've not had any teaching on it yet as this semester hasn't started and these are practice quizzes to get us ready for a dosage calc HESI on Friday the 15th. We start school Monday and this is for our Pharm class which all online. I'm sticking with what I know on how to do it, using DA.

I'm in a program where the instructor wouldn't do a single math problem on the board. Not one! Instead, she told us to be resourceful and figure it out, and told us to go online and see this videos and others. When one of the students got the hang of it, she made that student go around and show others, and made us exchange numbers so we can harass that student at all hours of the night should we need more help. What a joke nursing school is. 😅

Hi RN Sarah, could you do a video that shows the order, how to calculate what the doctor wants, how to reconstitute it, and then getting the drug from point A to point B (the patient) and how to give it to the patient (and do this with several types of delivery)? Unfortunately, having many desperate videos makes it hard for a neophyte to put it ALL together IN a clinical setting in a seamless way. And that's where we NEED it to go smoothly (and where we are criticized if we don't do it smoothly). Thank you because I know you try so very hard to take suggestions and teach us! You are a gift from God (to me as a student).

Hello Leah :) Yes, flashcards are great! Also, Kaplan seems to have a great book on those 300 medications...I've never used it but hear it is good. One thing I think that helps when learning about the medications is to really understand how they treat certain diseases because the side effects and nursing interventions make so much more sense. So, always try to look-up the patho behind the disease they treat too. I hope that helps. Best wishes on NCLEX!

The doctor orders Cardizem 25 mg IV. The instructions say 50 mg of Cardizem to reconstitute with normal saline for a solution of 2.5 mg/ml. How many vials are needed to achieve this ordered dose? I can't get the answer to this one. I'd appreciate your help.

+JJQgrandemachoguapo This question was tricky and instead of asking for how many vials the question should have asked how many mL are needed to achieve this ordered dose. So, I've changed the question to reflect this. In order to solve it you would want to do this: The doctors wants the patient to have 25 mg of IV Cardizem. The vial you have is a 50 mg vial and has been reconstituted to equal 2.5 mg for every milliliter. So, in other words for every milliliter you draw up in the syringe it will contain 2.5 mg of Cardizem and you want to give a total of 25 mg (ignore the 50 mg it is no longer important...many problems will throw in distractions and this is a distraction). When you work the problem with dimensional analysis it will look like this: 25 mg x 1 ml = 10 ml/dose 1 2.5 mg So, the patient needs a total of 10 ml to achieve a dose of 25 mg of Cardizem.
