A dosing disc, also known as a tamping disc, is a key part of a capsule filling machine that uses tamping pins for filling. Here's a quick rundown of how it works:
Powder bed and Tamping pins: The machine has a reservoir filled with the powder to be encapsulated. Tamping pins move up and down through this powder bed.
Dosing disc with holes: The dosing disc sits below the powder bed and has holes that align with the tamping pins.
Filling cycle: The disc rotates, bringing the holes under the tamping pins. As the pins descend, they compact the powder in the holes, forming a plug.
Transferring the dose: The disc continues to rotate, reaching a transfer station. Here, the pins move down again, pushing the compacted powder plugs out of the holes and into the waiting capsule bodies.
Accuracy control: The dosing disc plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate filling by controlling the amount of powder delivered to each capsule.
There are also different types of dosing discs, such as fixed discs for specific volumes and adjustable discs for wider product ranges.
