i literally couldn’t care less about either side of the argument but it seems many commenters are confused so i gotta clarify that “light skin” means having a typically fairer complexion than others in a black community. whether or not you’d be considered light skin can vary between different black communities as black and mixed race people have a huge range of skin tones. given that the whole concept derived from colourism, though, the client likely had a lighter colour in mind as the range for “light skin” are usually beige to medium brown oppose to the darker browns other black people traditionally have

A light skin is a black with like-tan skin, but like tan black, a lighter shade of brown than most blacks. She did it a bit darker than what a light skin looks like, but it's pretty close actually
