The doss soundbox has different version the v1.1 and the v2.1, i had both, and the v1.1 has a lot of deep bass, wich version are you using?
@ufokkenwotm83 жыл бұрын
I like v1.1 much more than v2.1 as it didn’t have the phone-speaker volume link. This meant I could set the XL at max volume and then only control input volume on my phone, leaving a lot of headroom for software eq where I could increase/recover the treble and deeper bass.

Was just listening to my Soundbox XL yesterday. Still a great speaker. Usually get out the Minirigs though.
@alanrossreviews3 жыл бұрын

@ufokkenwotm83 жыл бұрын
I got the XL for $45 and still use it these days. I kinda appreciate the very subtle bit of signal processing being done on it (unlike the DSPs these days being used to tastelessly get as much sound out of a small box as they can). Also the bass, while not emphasized, goes pretty deep with its dedicated sub.
@alanrossreviews3 жыл бұрын
It has a sub?
@ufokkenwotm83 жыл бұрын
@@alanrossreviews yeah, one 3.5inch "long-throw sub" (more just a woofer to be specific) in the center, 2 tweeters on top and 2 passive radiators at the bottom. You'd think it would go louder with all those drivers.
@alanrossreviews3 жыл бұрын
well i think i would still be calling it a woofer when it has a pair of tweeters with it.

I came across this review when I was researching the W-King X10-1. I have a Doss Soundbox XL I bought in March 2019. There is a later version of the DOSS that can be paired to do stereo but you cannot pair the older version with the newer one - I did check with DOSS Support and they advised that to be the case. It is still on Bluetooth 4 anyway plus cannot be charged via USB-C so you have to hunt down your mains block. It does have AUX-in which I think is essential in case you get bluetooth gremlins. I bought two Soundcore Motion Booms last month (no AUX-in!) but was very disappointed compared to my Soundbox XL. Straight out of the box they sounded like tinny old transister radios in comparison. So I used the Android app to play with the amplifier; better but still no cigar compared to the DOSS. I returned them. I'm usually very happy with Anker products. I can compare anyway as I also have a high-end Onkyo av receiver set up with 5.1 Kef speakers and a monster Kef sub. Another poster has implied that it all depends on your tastes and usage. Agree 100% The music Alan uses leaves me cold, though I do understand its purpose. Apart from music I make a lot of use of KZbin videos for training and voice is very important for me also when I'm editing videos commercially. The Soundbox v. DOSS analysis reminds me of high-end camera and lens equipment reviews in which the technical graphs etc showing the comparisons in extremes are only one part, the actual human feel of the end result is probably far more important.

You will also find some actual high quality audio samples. Regardless of your taste you should hear that my experience with these speakers was totally the opposite to yours. Something is very wrong with your booms.

Your right in saying each speaker excel depending on the track played, I think the motion boom is better on bass heavy techno or pop tracks, the motion plus on more pop vocal tracks while the Doss Soundbox XL is for more mature audiophile or jazz tracks. I have the Soundbox XL and love it because my taste is more on mature tracks. Also, in my place it just cost around 50 pounds (converted) making it a best buy while the anker products are very expensive.

What’s your opinion on boom vs plus in terms of battery life and longevity? Is it true that the boom reduces volume as the battery drains while the plus does not? Is that a dealbreaker? Also which one has the least amount of video lag?

ive not noticed that with the boom but i no longer test battery life because there are so many variables ANY result is misleading.

I have the Tribit Maxsound Plus for holidays which is brilliant for it's size and volume. I got the Soundbox XL for work (needing more oomph in our workshop) and it's OK, but I noticed the reduced top end and fitted extra tweeters. The motion Boom blows it out of the water. Two of them in my back garden whilst operating the barbecue (having a beer) is really very good. Tilt the pair in at about 30 degrees and you get stereo imaging, proper bass and they are nice to listen to. The Sounbox is a good listen and i might tweak the new crossovers a bit. I hadn't noticed the noise, but at 30 Hz, it won't be noticeable until towards full volume. Oh well, ebay bargain I guess.

Motion plus is definitely the most classy, has a very balanced sound, the mids and the highs don't sound so "metallic", it has the best sound definition. Motion boom makes sense for those who are more into outside events, has lots of bass, but lacks sound quality. The doss is still a really great speaker, but I guess the motion boom is a greater deal

Excellent videos as always sir. My input: Soundcore should re-release the motion boom with aptx- adaptive. It would reign. I don't know how they get away with so little distortion with full drivers, but alas... It would be a real treat for jazz and busy music. The motion+ dissapointed me with it's two tweeters. Budget Loud Boombox: no clear winner but my pick for fun outside listen would be: W-King X10 geni.us/wkingx10 Travel Speakers: Marshall Stockwell 2: geni.us/stockwell2 offers a decent immersive sound with full and tight bass. Beware though it does go very loud JBL Charge 5: geni.us/jblcharge5 Only mono but has a very clear and dynamic sound at low volumes and can go reasonably loud but will become a little screechy over 80%.

Hi Alan if you want to try one of the older speakers if you can get your hands on the fugoo XL tough which was in competition with the first extreme that would be a good speaker to test with today's newest speakers supposedly it sounds really good 38 Watts 360 surround two side firing drivers 2 passive radiators one on each side and for tweeters why I know every Bluetooth speaker made in the last 10 years I think that would be a good one I don't think they make them anymore but you can still buy them for about $200 they were 320 dollars and another older speaker the TDK a 40 which went up against the JBL Charge 2 plus now I know I'm going back over 6 years ago TDK a 40 had a little 12 watt subwoofer and two 3 watt drivers and don't forget the TDK a12 micro which went up against the first JBL Clip Plus I had that speaker they played in Stereo to with two of them they were really small with a great form factor and great build quality it was 3 Watts it was a really good pocket-sized speaker
