Corefix plugs with the steel inserts prevent the board crushing back when you tighten up a rad bracket but plenty of mix in the radiator area is always appreciated. 👌👍

100% on corefix. works on old Victorian lathe and plaster external walls too.

Does hardwall hold onto thermalite block? My thermalite block has been primed with blue grit but I’m wondering if dot and dab would have been better

Nice job John. What's the knack to making sure you cut the cutouts for the backboxes in the right place on the board? I always seem to have a nightmare measuring, guessing, more measuring then having to fettle the board.

Rub a bit of chalk around edge of back box, offer up the board and push against the boxes....chalk will mark the plasterboard.

What is the benefit over plastering the wall? Never seen this method in the Netherland. Great video
@BuildWithAE
@BuildWithAE 2 жыл бұрын
It's a very widely used method in the UK. It's a much quicker and more cost effective way of preparing the wall for finishing. Hope this helps. All the best, John 👷🏻‍♂️

Would it be better to batten the wall and then app!y slabs as aposed to dot n dab. Just curious . Why I ask is I was talking to a build who has a son who's an architect and he said that dot n dab creates moisture behind the slab? I've no idea just asking.. cheers.great video by the way , u make it look so easy.

Nice video. +++ However I would like to know how do you fix the plaster board around the window and metal lintels. Can you use Dab on the metal lintel and the plastic insulation infill between the walls around windows and doors? Or do we have additonally use some metal screws to fix the plaster board? Thanks
@TurinTuramber
@TurinTuramber 2 жыл бұрын
You can dab onto cavity closers, best if you have good amount of block also. The lintel usually have a key to take DD.

You make it look so easy John! :) Looking to do the same in my garage instead the button method. You said it needs to be sealed from the weather. Do you think will be an issue if I do D&D on a single skin brick wall such as a garage? Also do I need to use sealer on the brick before hand? Thanks.
@crisfiler6128
@crisfiler6128 2 жыл бұрын
I'd use moisture resistant board on a single skin wall.
@pgtips1199
@pgtips1199 2 жыл бұрын
@@crisfiler6128 roger that, is that with D&D fix to the wall or with buttons?
@BuildWithAE
@BuildWithAE 2 жыл бұрын
Protected from the weather refers to the fact that it should be inside and openings such as windows, should be installed prior to installation. To be safe I would recommend battening the wall with a damp proof membrane behind the battens, to prevent any moisture or damp coming through the board. Hope this helps. All the best, John 👷🏻‍♂️

If you have a v.uneven or out of plumb wall, what's the max thickness of dab you can use without risking too much shrinkage as it dries?
@chriskane9230
@chriskane9230 2 жыл бұрын
About 25mm , But I have stuck cuttings of plasterboard to bring a belly out and then once dried re dabbed with a full sheet over it if you are in a bad spot.

Why is he doing a 10mm fillet along the top but 25mm elsewhere? Doesn’t that make the board out of level with thicker fillets in places?
@TurinTuramber
@TurinTuramber 2 жыл бұрын
The 25mm dabs have more room to move into as surrounded by void. The perimeter dabs have less space to move into and squash down as they will hit up against the sides.

Sometimes easier to do the board on small pieces and top reveal. Otherwise just dab the wall and get on with life.

@TurinTuramber
@TurinTuramber 2 жыл бұрын
You would see all the blocks through a skim. You could first float the walls with cement render or hardwall etc. DD is actually cheap, practical and effective.
