A fun-fact a Bug's Life does partially come from Aesop's' fables but it also comes from a classic Japanese film made by Akira Kurosawa called Seven Samurai. In fact, it's likely Japan's most well known and duplicated story on film. Keep up the good work Nia.

@40:00 I just got an idea…I bet the way the grasshoppers first started collecting food from the ants was after locusts came and devoured all the blades - to the point that there was barely a harvest that year, and they had to survive off of leftovers from a previous year. So the great ant architects, Flick’s ancestors, decided that next year with the locusts they would bargain with them to give them a certain number of grains so that they don’t devastate and eat all of the food. I can imagine a heroic ant being brave enough to communicate with the locusts and making a deal, perhaps even becoming friends with one of them. Over time the knowledgeable ants died and worked too hard to pass down most of their ideas, leading to the period Flick had to become an inventor to try to save the colony. The reason for the original deal has been completely lost and just chalked up to being, “The way things are.”

This is basically Seven Samurai/Magnificant Seven. A village of farmers oppressed by bandits recruit warriors to help them fight. But of course, Pixar did it smart with the bait and switch with the help they ended up with.
@mevb15 сағат бұрын
This movie was inspired by the Aeseop's tale of The Grasshopper and the Ants (which have been adapted by Disney into a Silly Symphony short by the same name) but instead of the grasshopper begging for the food, it would demand it. It also draws inspiration from Akira Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai and Three Amigos, where the latter is a bunch of performers play like crime fighting heroes, are mistaken by those who begs for their help, for actually being crime fighting heroes, when the performers thinks it's another gig.

I love this movie so much, but I don't think I've seen it since I was a kid about 20+ years ago. For some reason, this is one of that my family didn't own, despite me loving it. Instead, we had a movie called "Antz" that came out around the same time. Which is kinda similar, but not really.

The only similarity really is that they both had ants as the protagonists but they use two totally different stories. I like both movies pretty much equally as they are both solid storytelling.

I’m so glad you reacted to this! I love watching this growing up! I once thought a concept for a sequel where Flick’s tribe would be in a war against a tribe of fire ants. Dot would be a teenager and would’ve fell in love with a fire ant. There are 2 other cool ant movies. They’re ANTZ which was a rival to this movie and The Ant Bully which based on a book about a human learning the ways of the ants. 💚💙💜🐜
