Techies is a very powerful hero who is different than any dota 2 hero! He's best in a solo lane because he can get 6-7 fairly fast, pick up some mana items and rotate out giving one of your supports some solo farm/exp.
Once you grab your core of Arcane boots and Soul Ring(if mid, get a bottle), you should spend some time setting up traps in the enemy's jungle. Once you have mana regen items, you can also pressure towers and push with the help of your allies, but once you get force staff and/or blink, you should be able to split push and farm solo.
Transition that farm into an Aghanihms Scepter, which generally 1 shots creep waves, and should allow you to push and farm even more quickly.
Once you have mobility items and you are teamfighting, try to combo your mines with your allies stuns, and create a safe zone of statis traps in case the fight goes poorly and your team needs to retreat a bit.

Very late comment, but a counter to abaddon's counter is to perfectly place your mines on top of one another, as that causes them all to proc at once, meaning his ult can't activate. The way you place them perfectly is select your first mine, set it to a control group, then when placing the next mines, select the control group and instead of clicking the ground click the mine's portrait, placing it in the exact same spot!

There is a way to make the stasis traps more reliable, normally if someone runs through a stasis trap they manage to clear it completely before it goes off, but one of the mechanics of stasis trap is that it sets off all other stasis traps within range of it, so if you line up 2 or even 3 stasis traps the aoe becomes a lot bigger and you have more chance of catching someone that's running fast in it.

Hey Purge if you read this I have a funny bug that I found on accident. If you spell steal techies suicide as rubic and you use it, it crashes the game server and basically kicks everyone off it. Just a fun little trick if you hate your team or the techies. :3 have fun all.

Wrong. Fountain heals a percentage PLUS a static amount per second. The less mana you have, the more significant this static amount becomes and the faster you regen.

I'm 30 minutes in and you haven't mentioned this so I thought I'd just let people know. Eul's doesn't have synergy with Stasis Trap. Immediately after being placed, Stasis takes 4 seconds to activate. This is because on top of the 2 second delay, there's a 2 second fade time where the mine is inactive. So if you Eul's>Trap, the mine will activate when they drop and leave the enemy with 2 seconds to walk away. If you already had the mine placed and Eul's after they hit it, they'll be in the air for 2.5 seconds and dodge the trap's stun anyway.

Assuming that the Soul Ring/Arcane thing is a bug, I imagine that Eul's would be a nice replacement since it also grants some movement speed. That, or you duct-tape a KoTL to your cart and have at it.

lvl 3 Necronomicon seems like a very good item for this hero :P spot all the wards in the zone youre mining (without loosing the a gem if you suicide/get killed or spend gold in wards) and help you last hit together with good stats. If you actually farm the stacked ancients and score some kills you can get this pretty early. luxury items being basically scepter and necronomicon, not a big deal. Also no mention to the sign you can put. causes some hesitation if you put it as a bluff (or not) in an intersection and you might make them want to deviate towards the mines.

Also if playing against techies i avoid high traffic areas and when scouting i keep the blademail on lol. That necro book is also amazing for scouting as you not only get 2 scouts, if one of them does die it does pure damage back to techies which might land you a kill.

Techies are growing to be one of my favorite heroes. Yes they are hard to learn, but in my opinion they are exceptional. Their map awareness requirement is insane as far as demote mines go, but having it is so worth it. Long live the Techies.

I agree that Techies can be a really good hero if played well, but the main problem in pubs is that most Techies don't know what they're doing (and often get the 5min no xp abandon). He's just a very different hero and yes not many people play him successfuly, but that doesn't mean others should be hating people who want to play him. Personally I don't really play him, but I also don't start flaming someone just because they picked him.

TL;DR I can farm slightly faster with Ancient Jungling, and it doesn't require enemy team to walk into my mines. What am I missing out on/forgetting about when I put all my chips into ancient jungling for 10 min. Purge, I can get lvl 8 on techies by min.10 with Soul Ring, Arcane, and over halfway to Force Staff Ancient jungling (using slightly refined version of original Reddit article). The downsides I see is that my presence in the laning stage is non-existent (no real first blood attempts, every mine from min -1 is spent on ancient jungling) and blocking the ancient camp with a ward is easy for the other team, forcing me to waste 3-4 mines and a two clarities maybe IF I don't notice the block myself. If that were to happen, I have boots and no regen, with 1-2 clarities. I believe the back up plan at that point would be, "go regular jungling" as laning without regen may just be the death of me (maybe I just play bad, but I've always needed regen, even with 700 attack range and regular game, no extreme harass/pushing by enemy team). I mean, sure you have suicide, but the while situation still does not seem favorable, and maybe it shouldn't be, given that I tried to play greedy and the enemy team countered. My question is, even if the enemy team does NOT block the ancients, is it still bad in many cases to put all your resources into ancient jungling? I ask because in this game, you take a laning approach, and supplement it with ancient jungling, and reach lvl 8 by 13 min., and arguing the importance of that 3 min. time window in pub matches (especially at my level) would just be splitting hairs I feel. plus, I have a feeling we are going to see a Nerf to early push snowball strat from TI4, so those early tower pushing mines may soon be less effective, although I guess arguing something that hasn't even happened yet can only end in supposition. Seeing LC, or any other jungler, restricted like that, makes me think that I'm missing out on an important aspect: Techies HUGE footprint. IDK, I still feel as though ancients is more...reliable, in a sense.

I have been watching a lot of techies games. Everyone does the same thing and that is running around mining places where someone may run through. Why not pressure a lane and mine the blindspots so you can not get ganked and take a tower very fast. Then that opens up more possibilities for you to go roam at least, instead of doing it at level 1 and wasting so much time. Take the off lane first, so you can harass mid, safe lane, farm ancients or mine jungle. Mine shop is also a great strategy in that lane because it increases the time they can get items. Mines on small camp is also good.

Hero with massive early game nukes and free wards. Very good at pushing, has the longest stun in the game, and can kill an enemy from across the map by just putting mines on the ground.

the "longest stun" in the game is maybe the worst skill in the game. its so hard to pull off (like every other skill). the only good thing this hero can do is 1 skill for push towers and blink suicide. and i would rather have a casual 300 dmg range nuke then one of his other skills

What is a good video to learn how to play for someone who has never played a game like Dota 2 before and mostly stuck to FPS etc? I've been trying to learn how to play, but can never figure out what to buy after the starting gold and towards the end. I also can't figure out how to level up as fast as other people. Using your starter gold video allowed me to do a lot better at the start, but have no clue what to buy after that and end up having a bunch of gold and no clue what to buy or do with the gold.

I am one of those full roam techies people. What i buy is tp and all other gold on clarities. For all i will do in lane is secretly sap exp from the solo offlaner(behind a push hidden) know this do not come near the runes after tp since they might be there to ward or check it out. Futherly find the closest to the lane spot where you expect people to walk to feed firstblood. Yet second YOU ARE A SECRET AGENT(do not show yourself though the entire game!) If they know that your bot they will play safer... later in the game after you have mined the enemy jungle paths proceed to mine the enemy anchient side rune spots(wait a while with mining the runes since they may have still a 1st minuit ward up) with mid game you might want to refresh the traps or add mines for solid kill damage. Sap exp if needed farm lanes where nobody is at... when you have time left or are hunted everytime when mining. Just remotemine the towers. If the enemy has a lot of junglers, carries or your team has some heavy ganking heroes like pudge MINE THIER JUNGLE CAMPS to block the creep spawn this will disable thier way of safejungle farming and will force them to farm in lane where you storm spirit or pudge can easily gank them... but know this: know what the enemy will do next(pushing) because you need time to ready your mines. Items are probably soulring, arcane boots, forcestaff, euls scepter, necronomicon. Thats my guide to roam techies have fun sneaky mining! :D

Necronomicon: help out team now because you 1st mines will be less effective vs heroes than in early- mid game Scepter is kinda mediocre its not worth a spot for the previous items those are better for techies. Euls >>> Forcestaff for first item. Euls gives everything Techies needs in the early/mid game. Mana regen, MS and an escape mech. Forcestaff comes in handy later on in the game; particularly when the enemy start to pickup gems and are trying to force pushes.

Stasis is way better than Purge says it is... in team fights, it's very important to have an escape route for your team, and once the enemy passes through your stasis, you have enough time to set another one and wait for the delay for it to be active. 10 second stun isn't a joke

I love playing techies. But he's only good till a certain point. If you create space in the early game by denying area's and killing people, your team has to take advantage of that. If they don't and the enemy starts pressuring you, you kinda always come one man short. So is kind of up to your team to carry late game and up to you to give them the space to do so early game. If your team fails doing that, all you can do is spam mines at your base and hope for the best.

euls is bad on techies, you need the mana and move speed, but the active doesn't let you get anything off. you will not need the mana if you use the arcane soul ring trick. ring of basi is really bad. its a lot of gold, you could have so much mana off an earlier soul ring.

when you have 32 mana or more, a sobi mask will regen more mana for you than ring of basi. Techies have 22 base int and a gain of 2.9, so chances are by the time you get the basi you wasted the gold.

Get a really long ranged hero with a gem and mines are useless. But yes, at the beginning of the game and late game when there is chaos because of a chase/battle getting a kill is not that difficult. I still find Techies to be playin against especially if you are a jungler and the opposite team Techies is smart enough to mine your own woods (tip: if that happens just try jungling in the opposite's team jungle :D). The voice acting is one of the funniest though. :D

IMO euls is 10x better than forcestaff as a first item. If you get jumped on solo from an lc or something you can just euls them and then mine them while theyre cycloned or run away. If multiple people are chasing you, chances are they are gonna have some type of disable and your gonna die anyway. Euls gives you massive mana regen, movespeed, and a hard disable thats not your 4 second delay stun mines. Not only that it hard counters void, who is picked in this meta extremely often. Also the forcestaff into mine tricks are extremely situational and almost never happen.

It's because you would give yourself more mana in proportion in the case you have a low pool. Then if you drop the arcane boots and take mana and retake your boots you should have a little more mana gained. It's actually happens for the same reason why you should drop your mana items before you get the regen rune (in case your pool is huge). So, imagine that your mana pool is a total of 1100 and the regen rune heals 100 mana: you drop you arcane boots and you now have 100 mana pool and the regen rune heal you by 100%. When you pick up your boots again you will have 1100 full mana to spend. The same mechanism with soul ring. There's no other way to explain it.

Soul ring gives you 150 mana. Let's say that this increases your current mana so that it is now 50% of your maximum mana. If you then pick up an item that increases your mana (like arcane boots), your maximum mana will increase, AND your current mana will increase so that it is still 50% of your new maximum mana. So as a result, soul ring has effectively given you even more than 150 mana. Also: At the end of Soul Ring's duration, it reclaims "any unused mana of the 150 gained mana." This means that even if you gained 200 mana overall from soul ring, the most that can be reclaimed is still 150. That's a nice permanent increase in usable mana.

And well Oracle is a much better hero that is currently in Dota 1 for almost an year now .....i wonder when will they bring him into Dota 2. Otherwise, Abaddon would be an extreme counterpick to Techies, and if he had good reaction time, could absolutely shut down Techies, since he could Blade Mail Techies' mines when his ult was down, and probably kill them with the damage, and survive the mines with his ult, in case BM was in cooldown.

Hank Madness Blade Mail used to work on Dota 1, just pick a high str hero, get a gem and BM and just destroy him if he decides to stack regular mines anywhere, and just clear ult mines by popping BM while destroying them

It's impossible to pick this hero anyways. Even if you get 80% of the kills on your team, your team will still blame you if they lose. They'll troll, intentionally feed, and/or RQ if you pick techies.
