From what I can tell, effects from continuous/field spells require them to be on the field to resolve, so if you'd MST'd mausoleum of the emperor when he tried to summon Barrel Dragon game 1, that would have stopped him from summoning and forced him to waste 1000 LP. 3:30 to be clear, when deion says mst would have negated his field spell, that’s not entirely accurate. the field spell would technically resolve without effect, since continuous spells/traps (including field spells) must be face up on the field at resolution for their effects to go through.
