node.js will overtake it as the most popular server side language/framework in the near future.

As today node.JS community move to a fork called io.JS ... PHP still stand ...

NodeJS has some problems that PHP solves, and vice-versa. I don't believe NodeJS is mature enough to be close to the database for example. Doctrine is still among the best ORM out there.

NodeJS is nice, but with its dependencies of all the packages its getting a mess too. As long there is no real good NodeJS framework with a good ORM, this will take a long road to get there

There is a long way left before having a mature nodejs platform but for now is probably the best choice for real time applications
