Dou dou dou...the Montréal métro's signature sound.mp4

If Montréal has a unique character, so does its métro, and one reason is the sound produced by the power converter on certain trains. With the new sound signalling the imminent closing of doors, these three notes will gradually spread to the entire network and become the Montréal métro's signature sound... dou dou dou !

They didn't mention the fact that it was based on the motor noise of the trains. People are criticising the fact that the metro uses a door close chime rather than an announcement. In the UK we usually have a rapid beeping sound, & France has "BEEEEEEB" (which, by the way, sounds so classic on older Metro trains) & we only have announcements when the train has been waiting for a long time or is full. I think it is weird having an announcement & no chime on train doors. Any newcomer, even if they only speak Albanian, will learn what the chime means on their first ride even if it's only one stop.

The doors tuned to 440Hz, the train is at 432Hz. THE NATURE FREQUENCY OF LIFE is st 432Hz, not 440Hz the way Rockefeller Institute and ilk circa 1920 corrupted the world to set our tuning off at. Now the trains are being replaced, removing the natural sound all together.... to better erase our full potential on and with earth. SICK. Thanks for following evil, bombardier.

I believe the 3-note motif is F#-B-F# which also appears in the Alex Lifeson solo on Rush's Limelight. Check out 2m51s on their official video. Canadians (and school children, on e-buses) are being exposed to Canadian prog-rock!

The sound was actually taken from the acceleration sound of the MR-73 or the prototype engine from the 2 "jeumont" element on some of the old MR-63

***** well the CEO did say international standards so even if someone in English didnt understand what "Attention, nous fermons les portes " (Warning, we are closing the doors) means, the dou dou dou will be a good enough sign, its like Toronto only having "Please stand of the doors" but not "S'il vous plaît tenir à l'écart des portes" but the door chimes are good enough

When I was in Montreal. Every time we used the metro and I heard that tone I started singing "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". The warning has the same three notes as the intro to the song

@@KingCobra1968 video is 13 years old. Before 2010, the metro would give off 4 beeps before leaving, and before that, it would use a buzzer. Before even that, the metro would just silently shut its doors, which would leave people stuck in the doors and cause delays in the system, as mentioned in the video. The tone was selected because it matches the noise of the MR-73 train's 3-phase motors contacting on acceleration. Listen carefully on your next ride aboard the older MR-73! You'll hear "dou Dou DOU" followed by a "ommm Ommm OMMMMMMMMMMMM"
