This guy just answered every question I had. I’ve been playing for almost 20 years with no real mentor, so I’ve had a few questions over the years. This guy just fuckin nailed every question about pedals I’ve ever had. Thank you, Erce.

I see you using a Tama Rockstar in some of your videos. I used to have a set of these in the 90s. I wish I never let them go. They were some great sounding drums. Great video, btw!!

Yes. I have been looking forwadt to that video, again very insightful. You adressed some interesting points, especially with the beater angle, as I was under the impression, that most extreme metal drummers have angles close to 80 degrees.

@@ErceArslan By 80 degrees I mean the angle between the beater and the head of the base drum. So, that the beater is almost horizontally.

@@ErceArslan Actually, my only source was the double bass tutorial by Eugene Ryabchenko: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3WtiXuVeq2em5o I thought, that this was a common practice, but now, that I pay attention to it on videos from various drummers, I see, that they use an angle much more to the one you explained in your video.
@ErceArslan
@ErceArslan 5 жыл бұрын
Sorry for late answer. That is a very good catch and very good question. I think I should have mentioned about your question in this video. Very few drummers like Eugene (who is an excellent drummer) use that setting especially with Direct Drive Pedals to maximize the rebound (when the max tight spring tension is not enough). So they have a bit higher footboard and near 90 degree of angle. Eugene explain his 'pressure swivel technique' in one of his video. You can check it out that video for more information.@@VBAmbient

Sir ..... I'm able to play upto 220 bpm in med-loose spring tension on my twin pedal. But I'm not able to play a tempo of 140 to 180 bpm. Is it because of that I'm using a twin pedal and also the slave pedal is weaker than the master pedal. So can u pls tell me an appropriate setting which I should set for me to play these tempos, (slow as well as fast). Thanks you🙏

I play a Pearl Demon Drive Eliminator double pedal. I have it at the tightest spring tension possible but it still feels loose and soft as hell. I’ve been playing another dude’s kit for a while and it’s an absolute monster with Axis longboards. When I first played it, my calves burned from how tight and powerful the pedals were set. Now I’m not comfortable playing anything else. Can I get my Demon Drives configured in a hard-tight tension or are they just naturally very soft pedals?
@ErceArslan
@ErceArslan 2 жыл бұрын
I've tried Demon Drives. They are very soft in general. Maybe you can try to change the springs with much tighter ones.

Thanks Erce for this usefull information!...a question: how can I distinguish fisically between the diferent type of tensions...its obvious between extremes but between medium and tight for example its not that easy... Thanks a lot!
@ErceArslan
@ErceArslan 4 жыл бұрын
You are welcome:) when you use the different spring tensions for several months at least, your muscles adapt and can know, understand even the small differences between them. So again the answer is play&practise.

I've adjusted my spring tension many times over the years and watched many videos about how tight they should be, but I have trouble figuring out how what people in videos say when they say "tight". If I want to play stupid fast double bass do I need to crank the springs all the way tight, as far as they will go?
@ErceArslan
@ErceArslan 5 жыл бұрын
It is related to how fast you want to play and the drive of your pedal especially.

@ErceArslan
@ErceArslan 5 жыл бұрын
Because you got used to air drumming (no spring tension feeling), it will take a bit time for you to adjust the pedals. Air drumming is ok, but practising JUST air drumming can cause such problems.

No it's not. Drummers use swivel technique to play faster. And you can't play fast with loose spring tensions.
