He thinks he must be extra careful now to not make her dislike him. There's also this whole parallel between them and Hara+Kanzaki. Even though Kanzaki's been confessing to Hara she doesn't accept it because she is not happy with herself yet. Ichikawa and Hara are similar in that regard.

Yeah this man was basically saying that now that he knows Yamada likes him he needs to keep his own behaviour in check even more than before. Thats all. I think the subtitles might be the issue some of the stuff are the same from what I watched but I think some lines are different. In the scene that you were confused about Ichikawa says " Yamada likes me? Even so, that doesnt mean anything's changed. It actually means I gotta be more careful. Unlike when someone doesnt like you at all, messing up when someone does like you ruins things for good". This man has been on edge all episode because he knows that now he and Yamada are mutual he gotta step up. To be honest, I will admit that ever since episode 4 they've been building to that confession but to be honest this show takes its time and explores Ichikawa's inner conflict really well. They took time for him to build his self-confidence, address his insecurities regarding her own stats as a celebrity and then made him realize that it doesnt matter if he dont got rizz like Kanzaki his rizz works Even the last line of this episode, "This is the smallest, most important step forward. This is our way" I really love that line because it's Ichikawa realizing that he and Yamada have slowly built their relationship from ground up and will continue to do so as their feelings for each other have become so strong that it's impossible to hide at this point. This romance is legendary and slow burn done right I cant deal.

We defintely dont start over. Ichikawa isnt the same person as he was in the beginning and there is always progress. Like right now they both like each other but the next hurdle is voicing it out loud to each others face , plus the ending was about them going at their own pace. They will get their but its fine for now because they are constantly progressing and not having any major setbacks

About your question @2:30 I guess in the manga they explained it better, although it was the exact same text. What Ichikawa meant was that before, when he thought Yamada didn't have special feelings for him, the situation was like he needed to do stuff to gain her affection up to the point she gets to like him. But now that he knows she likes him, it feels scary to think that now he needs to keep up in order to keep Yamada liking him, and him making mistakes could mean she stops liking him which in his head could be more hurtful.

This is one of the best portrayed mid school cute love stories of two kids I have ever read. The writer is very good to throw in so much of the mindset of a kid in such state of mind. I mean, most animes just start with a character having low self-esteem and things go from there, but in Boku-Yaba it is very easy to relate on WHY he is like he is and that is again thanks to the good pacing and great story writing. I just wish they flesh out Yamada as much as they do Ichikawa.

At the beginning, about affection level, is a bit of a meme because in Dating simulators, that how is defined if a character likes you or not. The more good interactions you have with a character, you increase the affection level, which unlock "flags" for more special events to increase even more. This kind of thing is used a lot in anime these days. So basically his point is that since he thinks currently Yamada's affection level is so high right now, compared to before, if he messes up or "gets a bad interaction" he might lose too many "points" and mess all the progress he had lol.

he knows she likes him at this at this point, it's just that ichikawa is an introvert not so confident person, last ep shows just how much it took for him to do that speech, he literally fainted which is actually believe or not happend to one of my classmates that spoke in front of the class. the courage to speak is not gifted by everybody, in reality a somewhat celebrity like yamada and an introverted person like ichikawa them having a relationship is one in a million chances you don't see it often, and if you do see it that person will always feel inferior cause that's just how shy introverted people are. I seen people mix introverted and otakus which is not true at all as someone that studies psychology and someone that is an otaku the line's between an introverted person and otaku is far in between. I literally see this otakus express thier love for anime/manga comics openly in public 😂 oh side note the opening describe what ichikawa is like as person there's a line translated in eng "you show me what love is love and I learned how to love myself" "your like a star that shines so brightly that I have to look away" that's just to show you what ichikawa thinks of yamada and what he thinks of himself. oh I'm not trying to be negative tho I'm just saying why it's not progressing like horimiya sign of affection and many other anime romace.
