I was talking to a driver last year, and he made me laugh with a similar story, When he newly passed his test, He got paired with an experienced driver to do route learning which he drives first and then you gradually take over while he supervisors you.. Anyway when my mate took over he was driving for about 20 mins and then he got a tap on the door by the supervisor, He asked him to stop at the next bus stop and then asked him what he did wrong for the last 20 minutes... Thinking about it, He didn't know what he meant, Then the Supervisor said, He failed to stop at any bus stops for 3 miles even though he was in service lol

i did that on the late night bus shortly after starting and the company had to pay for taxis for people home. i don't even remember passing the stop
@GSSVideos6 жыл бұрын
@@deathwarmedup73 it is easily done. as with driving you have to keep your eye on not what's happening in front of you but all around you. & with driving A big commercial vehicle as A bus which is 10 times harder to drive because the size of the vehicle & you need to maintain that safe distance not just from what's in front of you but also whats on either side of your vehicle. but other motorists/road users needs to realists that bus & Larry's are bigger vehicles & they need more room to manoeuvre around different objects they may come across when they are out on the busy roads

Easily done unfortunately, especially on a 13 hour split duty. By the second half you’re flagging. That’s where the old school conductors were useful.

@tchapman19774 жыл бұрын
One thing to consider, whether one is training to be a bus driver or in anything else one attempts to do in this world: Whether you think you can do something or you think you can't do something...you're right. Your mental outlook at undertaking any task has a direct influence on the outcome. If you think you can do it & you've properly prepared for the task, then odds are good you'll succeed. However, if you think you can't do a task, then either consciously or unconsciously, you'll wind up sabotaging yourself & the odds of your succeeding go down exponentially.

I've been driving articulated buses for eleven years now, love the things. But, they can bight hard if you don't keep your mind on your vehicle every inch of the way. Gross weight can be up to 32 tonne and reversing is a trick. As for mirror checks, they must be instinctive. I check both exterior mirrors when moving from a stand every time regardless of the situation, be it a bus stop or moving off from traffic lights.

Passed my bus test at the end of september. Been driving for arriva for a couple of months. Its not easy to drive the busses. Especially tight corners where you have to put your front end on the opposite side of the road to avoid the curb or railings on the nearside, alot of car drivers dont realise the space large vehicles need. So please if you drive a car. Just think. What if a bus needs to turn this corner. Thanks❤

Urban driving is a complete nightmare.. Rural routes and coachwork gives more of a sense of real driving. National Express for example. As an ex bus and coach driver I always wanted to try the Greyhound routes in America to see and feel what they are like..? That kind of work must include nights away from home and accommodation thrown in too given the vast distances covered? Even private hire work isn't or wasn't too bad when I tried it. Days out to amusement and leisure parks and the driver gets a free breakfast and goes on all the rides. Well they used to when I did the work I have no idea what it is like these days but would be great to know these little perks still exist to show appreciation to the driver for getting them all there safe and sound and back again..
