You mean GA for Go Around instead of TOGA for Take Off Go Around ?
@markwilliams9375Ай бұрын
Was in that plane. Pilot said tail winds were the issue, not sidewinds. Runway very short at BHX, not much excess for an A380 coming in hot. He could have landed, but risked not bring able to stop before the runway ended. 😅
@HughShowerАй бұрын
If it was tail winds, why didn’t they request landing into the wind from the north instead?
@MikeCBAАй бұрын
The daft thing was that just before it got to BHX they were landing on RWY 15 then after it tried landing on 33 they switched back to 15!

A friend flying from Faro to Dublin on Sunday, two go rounds in Dublin, diverted to Manchester, Manchester to Dublin 2 more go arounds, diverted to Birmingham, Birmingham to Dublin, 1 more go around landed on second attempt. 😢 not allowed off the plane in Manchester or Birmingham. 13+ hours on the plane could have flown to Singapore 😂 (Ryan Air 737) . All weather related. The poor crew were exhausted but did change in Birmingham for the last “Leg “ she was never happier to see Dublin Airport bless her.

I don't understand why people call a missed approach or a go-around a TOGA. TOGA is simply a button (in the case of Boeing) or pushing the throttle full forward (in the case of an Airbus) to engage the required thrust setting for a Take-off or go-around. The thrust setting is not always full power but a predefined thrust level (Flex temperature in the case of Airbus)

Didn't seem that bad on the windage on the footage Kev. We had very heavy gusts in Belfast yesterday from about 1pm right through the evening and night. Flights cancelled from city and international airport. But bizarre he landed at Manchester which would have put him closer to the storm we had yesterday.
@AirportActionАй бұрын
The wind was constantly changing Kip , they switched runways twice , but it was the only aircraft that failed to land at BHX that day during the stream , even the cityjet performed a go around ( quite early admittedly ) but nailed it's second attempt 👍

That first go around decision seemed yo be made far too early. The second approach didn’t seem to have much in the way of cross wind either. Certainly not a howling crosswind.

I been retired from flying 747's for UPS for 8 years now i dont know what the pilot was worried about but he could have landed on the first try
@megathumper777Ай бұрын
The airplane calculates its own energy for the landing based on weight and environmental conditions. We get a message if it’s limiting ‘If wet RWY too short’ it’s a mandatory go around in our company if the runway is indeed wet. The plane could have easily stopped, but safety margins get compromised. BHX, GLA are sporty on the A380
@EdOeunaАй бұрын
@@megathumper777- surely pilots shouldn’t be trying to land at airports where their performance exceeds runway distance. In fact, without an emergency, it’s illegal. It’s common, for me anyway, to use “wet” for landing performance just in case the runway becomes wet during the time between top of descent and landing, if it looks like rain is possible.
@megathumper777Ай бұрын
@@EdOeuna we do a calculation based on reported ATIS conditions, this will allow us to commence the approach. If the energy of the aircraft is different at 500ft (ie tail winds) it will give you a caution incase the runway is wet, the pilots decide to go around if it’s a genuine warming.
@EdOeunaАй бұрын
@@megathumper777 - right, but if you’re flying somewhere and the report is 6/6/6 but maybe VCY SHRA it is better to use wet figures because that’s safer, more conservative and shows better airmanship. I do it all the time, especially in Asia when cells can move towards the airport a lot faster than ATIS is reported.
@megathumper777Ай бұрын
@@EdOeuna yes I do the same. Always plan one worse than actual conditions. But if the plane shouts at you and thinks it’s going to overrun a GA must be performed as per company policy
