I Like it a proper spear technique that doesn't use some flashy move too much, i might like Chinese Spear fighting but most of it are for theatrical purpose which is still entertaining. At the end of the day it still comes down to thrusting and swinging a simple yet elegant weapon.
@mattisbette39328 ай бұрын
While I like this choreography a lot. It isn't really proper spear fighting. The spear is more used like a quarter staff with the many strikes a spins it makes. Using it like a spear would mean gripping it further back and using the thrust and spears reach to keep the opponent out of reach. But that wouldn't make for such a dynamic fight scene.
@robertoj.95098 ай бұрын
@@mattisbette3932 Whenever I read: "Oh, in real fights, the proper use of the spear was... " I highly doubt people in battle had the brains to focus in proper use of anything, guys would be biting, yelling, cursing, throwing rocks and hoping for the best outcome while using the sword like a fan.
@mattisbette39328 ай бұрын
@@robertoj.9509 It probably dependent on the fighters skills. A fight is a stressful situation so realizing what your opponent is doing and how you where taught to respond is really difficult. Good fighters however would definitely do this much better. However the spear is a rather interesting weapon to use. Tell someone that never fought to always keep the tip pointed at the opponent and they probably do quite well if the opponent has less reach. So for someone to wield a spear and stop with the simple plan of pointing the tip at them and start using it like a quarter staff because they panicked seems unlikely. Also there is a difference between a duel and a battle. What we see here is a duel. In battle armies fought each other and they employed some sort of formation. In movies we see armies running into each other and the frontline turning into complete mayhem. That sort of thing was very uncommon in history. People fought in formations to avoid mayhem. If the formation was broken people usually started to flee. So in case of a battle it seems even more unlikely to start to flail around with your weapon because the opponent is in one direction. So you slash and stab only that way otherwise you will endanger your fellow soldiers.
@ghostderazgriz8 ай бұрын
A bit flashy, but quite a few iconic moves. Really fun sequence. Tighten up the movements and increase the intensity and you got yourself a winner. Imo I'd throw out the pole grabbing at the end though. Just looks silly while the sword just spins in place doing nothing while it waits for the opponent to rearm.

Exactly how lord of the rings and other high fantasy characters would fight! For high fantasy, rule of cool with a dash of realism and believability like this would be nice, rather than pure monochromatic realism and grittiness. I like the idea of using the two swords like a polehammer with a butt spike. I bet bastard swords would be even more wieldly and better for dual wielding, as they are a good 'middle ground' between longsword and smaller swords. The flourish at the end is also very nice and represents the realistic way of using a longsword in a more fantasical sense.

This is a clear act of spear neglect and abuse, if you want use a quarterstaff / Bo staff go for it, but you are holding a spear use your foot work, spacing, parry & riposte. If I put rapier in your hand you instantly know how to use. Grab a spear and all the sudden we’re swinging it around like a human being has never used a a stick with a pointy end to survive in the wild or in a duel or in a war. The spear deserves better!
