Double Nuc Boxes used here for 5 years. I made these after returning home from Mike Palmers Apizries in Vermont USA.. they work great. However because if our mild winters I don’t really need the benefits of cluster sharing.

Great video. I use the 4 over 4 boxes in all my apiaries to support production colonies. They are so useful in so many different ways. Keep up the great work.

The convenience of being modular is such great thing. Never liked when equipment's are too static and one part is dependent on another.

I like independent boxes too. If you like to keep them warm, we can squeeze them together any time.

Learnt from Mr Steppler if you have a double nuc like that and super it up , they will fill it and not fight ? If there is a good flow on i presume .

I’m south of Vermont and run a few double nucs like Mikes but like you, I’ve found that standalone nucs are easier and survive well in our VA mountain climate.

We used here something similar to winter all hives. 20 frames box divided 10 + 10. Here in my mountain region winter starts in november and the first cleaning flight is in march. In the last years we get more cleaning flights and we don't use that but we started to use 5+5 for small nucs.

I appreciate the tips on the equipment and why you do what you do. I always tell my beekeeper friends that I only do what professional Beekeepers do. Hobbyist have to many opinions whiteout the experience.

I have seen some professional beekeepers do not have clue what they are doing, and some backyard beekeepers with some more summary and common sense.

Richard, another good vlog. i do not use nuc boxes any more. But when i did, I found nucs with vented bottoms regularly targeted by wasps, as they were able to check out the strength of the colony from below!

Fascinating. Never thought the buggers were so clever. It makes sense though.

You're right Richard. I come to the same conclusion: here in Toronto, we have had very cold winters for quite some time, and single 5-frame (double or triple) overhangs winter very well. Last winter I put together four nucs and some boxes got demaged . No more. I do not see adventage. i.imgur.com/5XybSIW.jpg

Great video. I also tried that arrangement. Better ways to share BTU's. I also have milder winters than Vermont. I am going to try double screen boards. Weaker hive over a strong hive. A bientot
