Sad Big Willy has gone, hope he has plenty of game time but in the grand scheme of things it fully makes sense. Just means United getting bent over yet again for selling our own players… Big well done to Shaw and Mainoo who looked better than the rest and glad they don’t get the brunt of blame. I think the Toney talk is just talk. ETH obviously fancies Wheatley and will want to give the lad 5-10 sub appearances this season. That, combined with Hojlund and Zirkzee, just makes me feel like we have enough numbers in the #9 position

It looks like Wilcox's game design might be that United need to be injury proof by having enough 1st teamers in each position to play 3 different formations with the same style (4-2-3-1, 4-2-2-2 diamond, 3-5-2/3-4-3). The academy has plenty promising midfielders in Gore, Fletcher, Hannibal, Collyer, McAllister, Curley and good wide talent in Williams, Scanlon even some striker cover in Wheatley and Bianchieri. We could be looking at midfield overloads and 2 striker formations for certain situations. We might not need to invest in fullbacks this way and would only need 1 midfielder in Ugarte or Amrabat

Based on the fact we pretty much know that Toney was on Man Utds list of striker options & we will have enquired about his wage & price, the latest links I can guarantee are 1 of 3 things, in order of most to least likely: 1. Media outlets knowing of Utds interest taking the last chance to push the story out before the official Zirkzee announcement, knowing Utds striker search is now over. 2. His agent using Utd to hurry up the other options. 3. Utd planting seeds for a free transfer next summer or a very cheap deal in January. We will not be buying Toney this summer (unless we make a big unexpected sale in the forward line).

(That is the new tunnel for the players to walk onto the field, not his own little kingdom under Old Trafford). The players we are signing don't point to a new formation. It's all sqaud depth. Players get injured, we need quality depth at CB with Varane/Big Willy and potentially Lindelof departing, the same applies at ST with Martial/CR7/Cavani all gone. One injury in both departments means we are back to last years options.

I've never been the biggest fan of the notion of us getting Toney. That said, it's ridiculous to suggest he should be going for less than £40m. He's an English international, who should be going into his prime, and is premier league proven. Onto of that, when you take into account home grown quotas, Toney I'd absolutely a £40m player.

A maverick in Palmer who stood out in the league in a dysfunctional Chelsea team that always changed the game when he was subbed in never starting.
