We had two swarms right before the huge thunderstorm, floods and hail damage. Luckily I got them housed before all that happened because the hail would have definitely done them in. Both captures made for a really long video, so I cut it into two. This is part 1 of 2. Enjoy. Here's a link to the pole saw I used: amzn.to/3e6FxqD and extra extension: amzn.to/2SezMhX

The fun of Swarms... its one of the funnest parts of bee keeping. The queen in a bottle formula is something new for me. Like usual I really appreciate all of your information on your videos. Learn stuff all the time on this channel. If your new to bee keeping subscribe to this channel.

Hi Dave. Yeah, that last bunch didn't want to go in for some reason. I suspect because that virgin queen was still up in the tree, even after I cut that limb off. I picked her up when I went back up there with that frame of comb on it. Once they smelled that pheromone, they started right in there. Thanks for watching.

I use one of those trim poles with the the ropes on them. I think they extend about 12'. It has a 5 gal bucket cut in half and a butterfly net ran down thru it and hooked to the pole. Works good! Might keep u from falling out a tree. Keep the videos coming. Stay safe!

Hi Bradley. Yeah, it's a super nice saw and very affordable. If you already have the battery and charger, it's really cheap. I also have the chainsaw, cultivator and string trimmer with edger attachment. They all work great.

Hey Mr CB. Yeah I don’t know why I didn’t just cut it off in the first place. 😂. If I had more time I think they would have worked there way down there. This was right before the big 4.5” of rain and hail storm. Take care.

Some beekeepers have had success using Honey Robber spray on the limbs after shaking the swarm to keep them from landing back on the branches.

I had one yesterday that I watched come out of one of my hives and went to a nearby cedar. Got my bucket on a pole and on 4 attempts they kept going back. When I thought I had them I went inside only to find out 30 minutes later that all went back up. On the 5th try they decided they'd had enough an left. There had to be 2 queens that had them confused.
@JeromeBeeFarm
@JeromeBeeFarm 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you have to get that queen. If she’s still up there, they tend to go back. Cutting the limb off and putting it on top of the hive is the best way, but not always an option. Sorry that you lost them.
@russellkoopman3004
@russellkoopman3004 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry about your lose. The first hive was so calm there must be a queen ready to lay. Have you tried to drill a hole 2 3/4" in the center of your lid? I have used that method and avoided robbing so far. I have heard that front feeders invite robbing especially where there are a lot of hives. Thanks for the video and I hope you have a good week. Slash is going to have a huge rack again the way it looks.
@JeromeBeeFarm
@JeromeBeeFarm 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Russell. I do have a couple Nuc lids with the jar lid hole on top, but they were in use on #4 and #18. I try not to use those entrance feeders, but fell to temptation. That may very well have been the culprit. Odd thing is that they were starved. Maybe they starved because they got robbed. Yeah, I'm anxious to see how Slash's rack turns out. Thanks for stopping in.
