Great video as always had considered putting two side rocket pockets with zips so they can be removed on my short back but possibly ott the more pouches the more I carry lol

Yes your bang on right, its best to learn to only take the essentials, (shelter insulation & cook set) and I stow survival preps/long-term wilderness kit in the rocket pouches, ready to be zipped on at a seconds notice.... Now see if the sleep system can be lightened yet keep the same R value, next see if the cook system can be lightened, yet be sufficient for the same duration, then cut back on clothing (just 1 full change) and minimize the shelter kit weight. Now see if you still need a bergen...lol My 120 litre of kit now fits my Ni 30 litre patrol (vid on that coming soon-ish) Another way to prep, is to pack camping gear in a civvy ruck, and a separate shoulder bag for survival preps...good luck bud...bex

Very good Bex, nice work and the saddle stitch is neat and very strong. I like the Osprey pouches as molle add-ons for my Karrimor Predator 30, I've added a viper hipbelt which has an Osprey waterbottle pouch on one side with mk1 Crusader mug and lid and 58 patt bottle, on the left side there's an Osprey Utility with a Jetboil Sol but It'll take other cooker set-ups just as easily. If I need more capacity I can get 2 x UGL pouches and a Utility on the back along the base and 2 x Smoke pouches above, kind US Alice large pack style. I picked up an Osprey Ammo Grab Bag with the intention of adding molle to it so it can be attached to the pack, the cheapest way I could do it was buy 2 UGL pouches (un-issued £6.95 the pair) and dismantle them to leave the molle panels which I'll stitch to the Grab bag, it would have cost more to buy webbing and stud fasteners and a lot more if I'd went for the "Pull the Dot" fasteners like those on the Osprey pouches. The Osprey pouches are well put together, took ages to break them down as I cut nothing and wanted to keep all the bits of webbing/buckles/velcro for other projects. Now that I've got all the parts I'm thinking that the grab bag doesn't improve much over the 3 Osprey pouches although it's one large main compartment rather than 3 individual pouches. It could all be a bit of a wasted effort, that's how it goes sometimes but I might as well finish anyway :-)

Love my jetboil, but don't mention jetboil on this channel, my viewers will rip you limb from limb....lol Pro tip for you, instead of using poppers (fold the webbing over on its self at the bottom, and stitch together about half an inch below the end) the L shaped lip will grab on to the molle ladder....bex

@@bexbugoutsurvivor LOL, aye, I have to be honest I'm not a massive fan of the Jetboil, I had one of the original PCS units back in the day, sold it then bought the Jetboil Sol, same as the PCS but shorter cup which to be honest isn't great for heating wetpacks/wayfarer meals. That said they're great at what they do and I still look at them from time to time so I may get another :-) Good tip on the molle, the thicker tab holds a bit like the tabs on 58 patt. I actually stripped the UGL pouches right down so I have the complete back panel of both pouches with all the molle webbing and 'Pull the Dot' studs still attached, I'll just sew both these panels to the back of the Grab Bag. I'm considering opening the vertical side seams on the grab bag so I can open out the back panel of the grab bag and use the sewing mc to sew the molle panels on but not decided just yet as I'm looking at an alternative method of attachment, the T shaped Osprey Ancillary straps with the Fastex Buckles, bought a full set for £8, waiting until they arrive before deciding my nest move. Anyway, take care of yourself, until next time, cheers :-)

Really liked the videos and glad I found them, Im really tempted to add the two utility pouches to my MTP issued long back for jetboil and rations. Can I ask I am going to get an awl and the waxed thread but what thickness is it 1MM? and what is the colour best to go with MTP. Thanks again and look forward to more videos

Glad it was helpful! Wax thread was 1mm 260 foot spool. I think (Dark Coffee Brown) would lend itself better to DPM, and I found (Army Green) was best for MTP as the dye will fade quickly. A 5 metre spool should be plenty for a bergen Thread available from ebay.....bex www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5m-of-1mm-Leather-Sewing-Waxed-Polyester-Thread-Stitching-Cord-Craft/264702907839?var=564512803159&hash=item3da185d5bf:g:0vEAAOSw5B9er~bi

The actual modifications are all approved, using your own purchased kit. How ever I would clear it with your screw at Depo first if you want to mod an issued bergen...If not you will need to buy your your own...bex

@@bexbugoutsurvivor on the long back with two pouches added instead of the main one fitted as standard, where does the straps go for the lid? on the outside of each one? thanks
@bexbugoutsurvivor
@bexbugoutsurvivor 3 жыл бұрын
The lower double/triple should not be in conflict with the lid strap as they are sewn under the lid strap (the lid straps are located half way up the bergen) the basha pouch over the lid straps which then should stretch over the basha pouch for full closure.....Hope I understand your question correctly....atb...bex

A question on long back convoluted bergen ...Does the frame go inside pocket with frame high bows to front or back ??? Also when opening the frame pocket ...can you see the long ribs frame tips on cross bar or are the underneath the crossbar ??? many thanks dave ..in surplus store I see them both ways .
@bexbugoutsurvivor
@bexbugoutsurvivor 3 жыл бұрын
It is totally optional to the user. I personally have the high bows out and low bows in, doing so forces it in to my lower lumbar. Others may find this too uncomfortable. Pro tip remove the frame and bend it with your foot to get a truly unique fit to your own body shape... If carrying less than 20 kg use it frameless, for more comfort, The ribs will prevent objects on the inside sticking in your back, downside the bergen wont stand up on its own when placed on the ground, so load it laid flat....b
