Double X0 vs Fishman Sonitone pickup | Sound Check | Piezo vs Magnetic Pickup

John's music is the best place to get music gear and service. But talking about XO double, keep in mind : 1. Some strings are not detected by the magnet. I broke the B string and so I replaced with a spare (ziko) one, and it didn't make any sound out of the speaker. I tried many other B strings too, but nothing. The apparent solution is, you should put "high quality" strings. Man, when we want individual strings, there are mostly only inferior options that usually get the job done, but not with this pickup. Also, gigs don't pay enough that we can buy entire sets of expensive strings all the time. 2. If you forgot to charge it and went to a gig in a hurry, you're doomed. Yes, 5 mins of charge might give you "1 hour of playtime", but standard gigs are around 3 hours long. The other pickup is like just replace the battery and you're good to go. 3. To adjust bass/treble, you'll always need a freakin screwdriver. It's VERY inconvenient.

it's actually an unfair comparison. double x0 also has a condenser mic in it. hence it sounds better ...not really comparable with a piezo only fishman

@thesunilrock20 we have NOT kept the condenser mic on for this comparison. It’s purely piezo vs magnetic for educational reasons. So in all aspects we tried to be fair.

Because the sound was recorded to the sound interface directly, not use the mic to capture the sound from acoustic amp. So it is good comparison if we use mic to capture the sound from acoustic amp of both sonitone and double XO. The sound from piezo is more dry because the output impedance of fisman sonitone may be not matching with input impedance of sound interface

Would have been good to compare the magnetic pickup on its own with the mic blend on the XO. I have the XO and so far I really like it. I have a number of piezo mic blends but I like the XO as piezo is a bit clacky sounding. The XO also has bass and treble control for the magnetic pickup and separate tone for the mic so you can adjust the bass for bronze strings which means great balance.

The Piezo is not a wire, it's a ceramic element. The XO is not ONLY magnetic, it has a microphone.

I believe he used just the magnetic pole version. the one with included condenser mic is $82 vs $45 and is also wireless. The mic on the $82 version is nice to have in moderation. Turn it up too much and you'll head to feedback .. 😊 btw the wireless is great for about 20ft away as long as there's no wifi routers right by the stage.

We are plugging the guitar directly into the audio interface. The live sound is similar but it will also depend on the equipment you are connecting to.

Hey so i need help in deciding a pickup for my accoustic guitar and would be glad if you can help... my problem is i dont have a nail on my thumb and due to it im not able to create some good tones on top 2 strings since they dont vibrate that much with thumbskin as compared to top nail also im not comfortable with the thumb picks so i wanted a pickup that can pickup minute vibrations and can amplify it.....

Double x0 is quite a sensitive pick-up. However there is a limit to sensitivity as if it’s very high u will end up with feedback. So it’s technique + equipment. Full reliance on either on them doesn’t give top quality results.

Yes the D.I tone is same on both pickups. Acoustifex Go has the effects that's all.

I have to say this comparison is a bit misleading as it its comparing a piezo pickup (fishman) with a magnetic with condenser mic in it pickup (double x0). both are entirely different and not really comparable they serve different purposes. it's like comparing a dreadnought jumbo guitar with a 34 inch parlor travel guitar. They both sound inherently different.

When buying an electric guitar, An active pickup can be compared to a passive pickup just to understand what a buyer is getting into. Similarly this video is to educate the sound difference between two different technologies. To be fair we haven’t kept the mic ON in this comparison. The difference is the beauty and In the end it’s the buyers preference of sound.

​@@denisa80Truly. Piezo pickups have a sound of their own; brittle and soulless. A good microphone and magnetic system comes as close to reality as you can without a studio environment and a high quality condenser microphone. Sound is subjective, but reality isn't. The Fishman is a poor runner-up here.

I have tried 3 different kinds of wireless soundhole pickups. They are all good, including no noticeable delay, but the microphones are not great - maybe just not in the right location being that they must be integrated into the main magnetic unit. I like the Double X0 best.
