In fairness, I think we're getting close - unless of course we include neo-colonialism - the use of economic and other power to dominate the politics of foreign countries by the world's major powers - that of course is still alive and well, although maybe not for long. But in terms of direct colonial domination, most of the major areas and populations that were affected by that in the past were able to liberate themselves, mostly in the post-WW2 period. What is left tends to be relatively small territories - even though, of course, the treatment of those is still terrible and still needs to end. As much as Trump is terrible, I have a hunch that his sheer incompetence is going to do tremendous damage to US imperialism, and that will bring down a lot with it. When the major imperialisms of Britain (my own beloved country) and France came crashing down after WW2, the imperialisms of smaller European countries like The Netherlands were really not able to sustain themselves for very long. It's like taking out the central pier of a bridge - the whole structure comes down with it.
