You think that Union Pacific stores there historical steam locomotives like UP 844 and UP 3985 outside like they do with their diesels locomotives do you? Think again those steam locomotives have their own building that they are storied in in Cheyenne, WY and not everyone can get near them except for Union Pacific Steam team that services them and maintains them and when they are on the road the steam locomotives are watched 24/7 so the chances of someone stealing parts off them is ZERO.

To Blueblur1987: Maybe they can't be bought, but they can be stolen from. When enough parts & assemblies are removed, they won't be worth saving. They will become junk & then they will probably get cut apart & melted. It won't happen a day too soon for me! I would like to see them all cut apart & the materials reused.

Blueblur1987: Thank you for the very flattering compliment. I sincerely appreciate it! Union Pacific's purpose in maintaining these clunkers of scrap iron is a misguided cause. No body needs education about the steam locomotive! Idiotic mission! There only future in them is to graffiti paint them, junk them, scrap them out, parting them up, cutting them apart & melting them down for new materials. Yes parts can be made. Melting them down & recycling the materials is the absolute best for them!

It is well known where those machines are. They are not as well protected as you may believe. The security system is known. Yes, it would be a challenge to obtain the parts from these, but it can be done. This may be a hardened target but there are others which are not as difficult to raid. These are machines are just banks of materials which can be used for CASH. And banks get robbed! When they do, what remains is junk! It is long past time to get rid of all of the remaining steam locomotives!

That is right! Junking out old equipment & sending it to the foundry for melting down & materials reuse is what I do.

They should all be junked out & cut apart. They are not worth keeping any longer! Junk all the remaining steam locomotives! Cut them apart & melt them down.

Despite what you think, I am here! Nice to know that this is being sought after by people who need the parts to sell for CASH with NO QUESTIONS EVER ASKED! An urban artist could do a beautiful graffiti paint job on these relics of scrap iron! Junk all the remaining steam locomotives! Cut them apart & melt them down!
