why are people saying doublelift is cold hearted? grow up kids, its real life, doublelift obviously cares for his family but they arent his be all end all, hes not the kid that was left out on the street anymore, he's a grown ass man and independent, not a wuss that needs his parents consent to live.

Asian parents are hard. I don't actually know how to explain this but as an Asian, I can completely relate to everything he said. It's not like we disrespect our parents but that's just honestly how we feel. They're our parents and we love them but they just don't understand and they want different things. It's one of those things that u can't really understand without experiencing it.

keep6moving2on i get it and i only have one asian parent. One is more than enough to make you feel this, but at least my Dad runs interference for me sometimes. I can't imagine how bad it would be if both of them were like that... I'd go mad!
@johanbak80687 жыл бұрын
i think you are generalizing the asians @keep6moving2on even though you might be yourself. Pls start saying SOME asian parents. It's kind of the same to say black people like grape juice. Instead of some black people like grape juice. okay bad example but i hope you get the point

I don't blame D-lift for acting the way he did after seeing his parents, coming from strict chinese FOB parents myself, he was probably never hugged or appreciated for anything he did throughout his lifetime, he's been neglected and kicked out, and after finally seeing his parents you best be damn sure those memories and feels of resentment came back to him, especially when their parents didn't show to much interest and only cared that he made money and was successful, I bet they never apologized for anything they did. It's hard to be happy when you come back to that no matter how "nice everyone is".
@cloverring8 жыл бұрын
From an Asian background, I totally agree. For the longest time my parents keep telling me to grow up before the age of 12 and pressured me to do so many things that wasn't suited for my age. They even denied me what made kids, "kids". I shouldn't be so "childish", I don't need toys, I don't need to play with friends and I should hang out with high school/college "kids" so I learn how to be more responsible. I didn't even grow up with my parents. My grandma raised me. My dad came to see me once a year due to business and my mom hasn't seen me since I was 7. Now that I'm in college they're suddenly showing me affection because they realize I'm actually making something out of my life. They see how much I give and treat my grandma and suddenly they're pulling the "I created you" card. They didn't spend a single dime when I needed them the most so why should I care for them.
@HanYukiii7 жыл бұрын
I not sure how to put the this but not all Asian parent show affection to their kids. Your parents gave birth to you and they cared for you. Even if it looks like they don't care, the really do. I've seen a few shows like xchange (变形记) where the kids think their parents don't care about them and then treat their mom and dad like shit but their parents be crying in the side. Really heartbroken. I feel like your parents, they just want you to succeed. Theyve been through tough lives since forever. Some were farmers, factory workers;people who work for hours and make very little. I'm pretty sure your parents are strict so you guys won't have to be like them. So you guys can have better life. That's what my mom tells me. She's not very open to showing affection like all Asian parents but she's always there when i need her. I don't talk to her about problems. I typically tell a close friend. But I know she's there for me. Your parents don't care about your money really. They just want you to at least make a living and be able to live on your own and have a family.
@henrypham9047 жыл бұрын
From an asian background, I still think DL was pretty disrespectful towards his parents and didn't try to understand why his parents were so strict, from their point of view.

Henry Pham im also chinese and honestly his parents distaste for gaming makes sense, they wanted him to be successful with a stable job that earns money. They probably though that gaming would lead him to poverty. But ehat doesnt make sense to me is how un openminded they are, if i was dls parents i wouldnt have allowed him to go pro gaming at first because id be worried that he is sacrificing to much, but seeing him succeed would make me more curious and find more ways to support him. But dls parents are so cruel and put alot of pressure on their kids....no wondrr dls brother snapped....

Doublelift clearly still has recentment and I dont blame him not one bit for it. You kicked your own son out of the house when he was 18. I bet he hated them so much. Thats probably why he is the way he is now. Hes been on this "Ill show them what a huge mistake they made" Ironically, without that experience he might not have been able to channel such a strong energy into his game.

As part Asian (more on the Chinese side I can confirm 18 ain't really the "ripe age" as most white kids or westerners in general, where they are encouraged from birth that they can just go out there, get a job etc etc. In our country, 18 is when we graduate high school, and still we HAVE to go to college and come out with a degree and have a job-job for them to be officially proud of us, for them to consider us as worthy members of society and an offspring that's not humiliating to the family; of course severities vary and there's exceptions to the generalizations. Before that you are still unfortunately under their care post 18 y/o, and probably since young as an Asian kid you did not know WHAT to do to even support yourself because all you know all your life is STUDY. So when Travis said that he had to pick clothes for Doublelift I blushed hard because my mom still bought underwear for me post 18 y/o. I realized I HAD NOT FUCKING BOUGHT 1 UNDERWEAR FOR MYSELF AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO. I relate so much to his plight because I KNOW this. His parents are even more old-style than mine, where he works and makes payments to his parents before he got kicked out. Back-talk is a no-no (that got him kicked out of the house btw), and games are nothing but leisure and a waste of time. Even now when I see DL like this and I have goofiness and natural humor that can be utilized in streaming, it's unfortunately hard-wired in my brain now to feel guilty the moment I start to enjoy myself or start to consider entertainment as a career. Because that's all it was since young - a waste of time. Again, it varies from person to person, but his parents remind me a lot of my own and the stories my parents told me about THEIR parents. It's not...... emotional-friendly.

I can understand his comments and opinions of his parents; my own immigrated to the US when they were only teens and neither were fortunate (in the monetary sense). They strove for success, even if it's only a little better than what they had before, and they wanted me to do the same. That's the most important thing for them; because to them, while they do not need money to be happy, they feel that money will be able to bring you happiness. For instance, by being able to afford what you want, you can please yourself and your future family; you can take care of yourself. They taught me from a young age - failing to meet expectations was the same as shaming the family and being an improper heir (I'm the firstborn as well as the first male to my paternal grandfather; he has "requirements" for me). My own parents haven't kicked me out of the house so I can't sympathize with Doublelift's whole situation, but I can see where he came from. It took the longest time for my father to even see that I failed his list of what a son should be. I'm just lucky enough to not be kicked out. Eventually, he finally saw me as something little more than a failure - he is now able to see me as a person and not the object who needs to do this and that. In fact, this year was the first time he ever truly complimented me as a person. Doublelift understands his parents, but he also has the right to be slightly resentful as well. He did what he wanted, and though it's been hills and mountains, he's done the best he could. Hopefully, his life will take an up-turn.

Everyone thinks how he talks about his family makes him a bad person. But a majority of the LCS players aren't even close with their family anyways. Travis is a "good guy" because he's the one thats always been there for DL, since his first pro debut, and even before then. He motivated and got him onto a team. Plus most parents hate that their kids go into "pro gaming" and think its stupid. So I don't blame him for being upset.

Yea but they should understand thats that what he wanted to do in his life it's unstable but there is always a chance that he could have make it big (which he did) so they supported him after the fact which is like YEA I DID IT so they have 2 support him but they should have supported them ever since the beginning.
@usmanh77010 жыл бұрын
ery millon It's incredibly hard to support someone who is going down the wrong path, even for a parent... Yeah, he is incredibly successful, but the percentage of gamers who become this successful... its less then a musician's chance of making it big, maybe they thought the risk was too big and outweighed the potential benefits, besides Doublelift even said he was pretty bad mannered to his parents and he didn't do anything but play video games, tbh coming from an Asian parent, its not the best thing to please your parents.. xD

I guess you don't realize that Travis was probably the one who convinced Peter into going back to see his parents after living away from them for over 2 years, especially since he left on a bad note. Travis keeps making fun of Peter because that's the kind of relationship they have, they're practically brothers, and Peter does the same thing to Travis. It's just how they interact.
