@m.m stock to stock, the 3.7 is the peppier, higher HP car. Add a basic axle back and a true CAI and even a basic tune, the 3.0T will make nearly triple the results while driving and sounding like an OE car. Now, get that above a few thousand RPM and you'll know they put a little more fuel to the engine. My 3.7 gets about 25mpg on average, the 3.0 males better torque and has a smaller displacement. It got 27mpg. Stock, no tune, the 3.7 would still be faster. Add the tune, the 3.0TT becomes an absolute beast. Drive it normally and you'll still get respectable MPG. If I drive my 3.7 with a heavy foot, it drops to 16-18mpg. The 3.0 was closer to 20mpg, likely from the tqe provided by boost.

Great video! I do believe the VQ is ultimately the most reliable motor as someone whose owned just about every version VQ. and getting miles with little to no issues BUT that’s not to say the VR can’t last as long. The VR is based of the VQ just like the VK is based of the VQ and if you maintain both motors properly they’ll last. From what I’ve seen ppl go too long between oil changes, use cheap oil and poor fuel quality which can hurt reliability. Another issue is ppl don’t tune properly or perform the necessary upgrades when tuning. I like the VR motor an think it’s a great VQ replacement.

There is a tsb for the earlier 3.0t motors for the belt misalignment. All you have to do is take it to the dealership, provide the technical service bulletin and they will actually realign the ac compressor. No more misalignment. Great video and would agree with at least 95%-98%. Strangely, my wife had a rental, a stock Q50 Premium in 3.0T trim. It was 100% identical to my 3.7 Q50 Premium. they were even the same color. Pictures happened. Lol I was sadly disappointed with the performance of the twin turbos and the complete lack of any whirls, angry turbo noise---- at all. We actually raced and then swapped cars and raced again. Uhhhh, on a closed course, obviously. 🤔🤣🤣🤣 Here are my only disagreements with this. The 3.7 is rated at 328HP whereas the 3.0T is rated at 300HP, stock. As I've had several of these cars (Gs and Qs) through the last 12 years and actively looking for #4, I truly don't see much price difference at all between apples-to-apples 3.7 vs 3.0T cars in like-trim. What I'm looking at is quite a bit over 20k but it's still a lot of car, dollar for dollar. You can pick up grandma for a trip to the store in absolutely silent luxury and symphony on the Bose and after dropping her off at home, qieue up the adrenaline music on that Bose and go embarrass some guy in what he thought was a really hot Fox body, Civic-R, etc and then tool home like nothing ever happened. Hands down, the 3.0 will make the most power with similar upgrade dollars spent. Period. The turbos are indeed no bueno and not a cheap repair, even with parts only. I would still take the 3.7 all day for cost of ownership. The HP:Wt ratio at even 400HP and Tqe from the twin turbos will hand down embarrassment to some more purpose-built, newer road beasts with much more HP than 400 and you won't likely see their car on the same road within a few years. Regardless of the trim level, you are otherwise spot-on, my friend! They're generally over-engineered cars in most respects. They do have a few quirks but the 3.7's longevity coupled with the low cost of ownership would be the better investment. If you're looking for a tunable road burner or an absolute beast of a sleeper, the 3.0T would be the winner by a landslide! With the same CAI and basic exhaust and tune, I agree, 20-30HP for the 3.7 or spend the same money for identical parts and upgrades and get 100HP, without a doubt. Save for jumping to an S or Red Sport S, their prices are nearly identical. You are 100% correct, the 3.0 will make a very reliable 400HP with very little money spent with other claims of 450+ with limited AM parts. 😊👍 Thanks for a great review and I'm not trying to troll, at all. 😊

Tracy, mark my words, get the GS 350. It is by far a more reliable/durable car than any Infiniti ever created. I have owned all of the following between my wife and I: 2006 IS 350, 2008 GS 350, 2010 IS 350, 2014 IS 350, 2016 GS 350, 2005 g35 coupe, and 2010 g37 coupe. I hope you see the trend of the 350 motor in the Lexus since 2006. The Q is nice and a little quicker than the GS. But unless you plan to drag race like a teen or 20 something year old, the Q has NOTHING on the G.
@nallis013 жыл бұрын
BTW Tracy, the Q will eat you alive with gas burning. The Infiniti cars are horrible on gas. Like ridiculously bad. The GS isn't the best at gas but way better in the real work than the Q. Don't let the on paper MPGs fool yu. Those V motors in infini drink way too much gas for the performance they deliver. I would rather buy a 335i or 340i from 2012+ than take a chance with a Q. They are very similar in reliability and MPG to the Q but the Beemer is way, way quicker and more fun to drive. Yep! I went there. That's my opinion on a on reliability ratings for Infiniti that I think they are close to BMW levels, if you got a heavy foot. Baby it and it treats you nicely. Have fun and it will do the same with your pockets.

Having both motors in my Z, I still stand by the 3.0T wayyy more. Potential is only on the rise and we’re seeing 650+ becoming more common on the 3.0T and keeping up with boosted 3.7. The 3.7 is a damn solid motor and LOVES boost, like you said. “Reliably” making high power is case by case. I’ve seen 3 3.7 blow while roasting my 3.0T swap saying it was going to blow on dyno. I’m still running strong. The high horsepower 3.7 (stock block) that would gap the fastest 3.0T are not reliable lol. Half of them are scared to go top of 5th because a lot of VQ will grenade. Having been around these cars so much I’ve seen the good and bad. My opinion will always stand that the 3.7 has great reliability vs the 3.0T because it’s been out for over a decade and tuners learned where it hits or misses. The 3.0T has gotten a ton of support only in the past year and will get more with it in the new 2023 Z. I saw comments on cost- to get a 3.7 to 500 with be min 5-7k. To get it above that just depends on the factors. Getting a 3.0T to 500 doesn’t take much. I wouldn’t including pricing of licenses because you need that for both platforms and they are about the same in cost. Getting my 3.0 to 600+ is another 3-5 (I have sponsorships and help so it’s different for me). I’m making near 500 on stock turbos and they do go depending on factors, but not so much on the 19+ models. If you compare a SC 3.7 then it would need to be vs a upgraded turbo 3.0T. THATS a race. Best comparison I’ve seen in a while and you can tell you’re disappointed with the race 😂.
@On3_media3 жыл бұрын
For anyone who wants to battle it out- When the 3.7 was first getting boosted with the Stillen SC kits they used to blow like at 500 whp. People used to think that was the limit of the VQ until they found out it was the torque. The VQ has been out for 20+ years and has has A LOT of time to be figured out. Apply the same time to a 3.0T and I’m positive the same results will happen or more since this is Nissans new motor they’re focusing on and has only been pushed for about 3 years to find it’s limits.

I may be wrong, but doesn't the 3.7L have 328hp?

I have a 2017 QX50 all blacked out with the 3.7 l. I know there isn't much talk about tuning QX in this video. Are there tunes out there for this vehicle also? I absolutely love this car. I bought the 3.5 l G35 coupe the first month it came out in the early 2000s. It was the BMW beater at the time lol. Anyways I'm just if there are tunes for the QX model. Thanks! Great video!!

I always hear reliability issues from random people on the web with the 3.0t but I’m looking to buy one and not tune it at all just stock, is it that bad that I have to worry or do the issues come in when people tweak things ?

you shouldn't have to worry about issues at all. people are quiet about how the drive or tune there cars on forums, so you never really get a clear answer as to why some of these cars are blowing there turbos. But definitely maintain it with frequent filter/spark/filter changes & you're good to go
