Fun Fact: Wes Craven was considered to direct A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (the fan favorite of the series.) But he turned it down because he was too busy with this movie. So his darker/grittier script was re-written into the movie we got by it's new director. Craven would say he hated the film because he felt it wasn't dark enough. Oops.

I find the origin of Wes Craven wanting to make this film his version of Starman to be very interesting, especially since the movie is based on a book called Friend by Diana Henstell, which makes the movie look very faithful to it since it was a Scifi Horror story with the girl turning into a monster. Maybe Wes Craven like the concept but wanted to change the ending and tone resulting in the studio wanting him to stay more faithful to the book and why he was hired to direct it in the first place.

The final scene with Sam being a robot wasn't Wes Craven's idea. It was the an idea from a big head at the film studio, who no one said no to. I have a feeling it was meant to end with Sam dying in Paul's arms. It's a shame because the book goes into a lot of inner thoughts and in a way that screwed up ending made sense.

I researched the ending. I read one analysis that stated the two personalities meshed then formed a cyborg unit. The personalities lived together somewhat peacefully until BB experienced Sam's emotions. BB didn't understand why it didn't want to be with it all the time so the BB side became more angry and jealous. Its main function was to protect its creator. The ending shows how devoted BB was him. It began to take over the Sam side completely. It almost seemed to "love" him in a romantic way. BB wanted to have him for himself. BB's second to last victim was Sam (in a way). BB thought he could give the character more than Sam. Unfortunately, BB didn't understand the sexual attraction his creator had and realize it'd be impossible to satisfy his creator. That final reject BB may have accepted the truth. Some of the explanations I found compared it to "Frankenstein". I suppose it was a happy ending: BB FINALLY had him to himself.

This movie was so patched up badly, like those weirdo dream sequences that didn't go with anything in the movie because, I guess to capitalize on the Nightmare on Elm Street movies with Wes, it just made it even funnier. And I think Sam's dad was probably taking her because of one of those dream sequences was specifically with him. But it's good for some laughs when I saw it back in the 80's

The basketball explosion scene is adorable, but the dream sequence with Sam's dad is absolutely the most terrifying thing. Yes it's overracted, but that's the point it's not subtle at all with the fears Sam feels for her dad- and it's so the worst thing you could ever imagine without literally being a scene of..well. It's like you're having a disturbing intrusive thought but you're asleep while you're having it so it feels like a legit nightmare that won't end no matter how much you want it to end and you can't feel clean the whole rest of the day just after seeing a frame of it. brrr...
