Thanks again for doing these clips. Very helpful. I hope the Little Man is still doing well. So far I've got my transmission loose (not removed) managed to get the problem part, the pulley, off, and have a new one on the way. Next, is the reassembly. That is often the most challenging part. Good work. You're a versatile, talented guy. Thanks again...

Your tutorials are very helpful Thank you. The belt came off my HRB216. In replacing it I find that the pulley on the transmission is cracked. Can that pulley be replaced or will I have to replace the whole transmission? Thank you very much for your time & help... Jack

The metal finger that attaches the tranny should there be a spring on there possibly internal ? mine just stays where I move it. Was going to replace my stretched cable but without the spring to oppose it I dont see much point

So my boss got one of these from auction. It was kind of a freebie for the most part I think he spent like $5 on it. Well after looking at it the motor wasn't seized so there was hope. The bar for the transmission though is missing. Got a new carburetor the thing started right on up and surprisingly had a lot of power. Well I was just trying it again after like four months of sitting and I decided to try to use the self propelled thing. It didn't want to work in 3rd gear. But first and second we're fine for the most part. But after doing up about 4000 plus feet of cutting the transmission wasn't making the tires move anymore it was just making a clunking noise. Seeing that yours has a leak kind of blows my mind. The one I got is basically half broken apart with no screws holding it on for the most part the black case and it's about 50% of the way open. So now I'm at Walmart about to buy some penetrating lubricant stuff because the nuts and bolts on this thing or so see used that I don't even really know what to do to him besides penetrating oil and some fire only in certain spots I think some things are never metal but all contain washing I'm just letting you know what's going on with me even though like you know who cares

Do you have a link for the seals that you put into the transmission? I have the transmission apart, but would like to replace the seals with new ones before I put it back together.

Do you know if it's possible to remove the transmission from the rear axle? I have a similar mower with a similarly dead transmission. I don't need the self-propelled feature, so thinking I'd like remove all self-propel-related components to lighten the mower for pushing.

Do you know if you need to remove the entire transmission as you outlined in order to replace the shift lever cable assembly? This is for a HRT216S3DA. Is that the clutch control cable or the shift lever cable that's screwed down at the end of your video? Thanks.

3 speed transmission was $149.00 Shipped for the HRZ Commercial grade mower I have. All cables were bad. Both right and left adjustor bushings were bad, carburetor was bad. The blades were fine. I should have the old transmission out and new one in and hopefully sell it. It has the extended front locking wheels( cables were bad). I will never again fix one that extensively damaged and worn out ever again. Oh, also replaced all 4 wheels. Next is a Toro with electric start. It took me a month to get the blade pulley mount. I ended up getting Stens because factory ones are cheap junk. I just fixed one for a friend, the pulley had worn in half!

Glad son is doing well! Wondering if anyone knows how on similar model how to get access cover bolt out that's by the rear wheel on model with plastic cover. There's a hidden bolt head but can't find anything in my pretty big tool collection to grab it and another video guy said it wasn't meant to be removed or something. The plastic transmission on this I'm researching how to get at the control arms as apparently the drive engagement arm square hole get hogged out and gets so sloppy it won't work. My mower won't self propel at all, just acquired it cheap but engine runs like a top. For the worn arm I think I'll weld in some filler and file it square or something. Thanks.

Those gears, keyways and springs that run inside of the rear wheels cause 99% of the transmission problems on these otherwise GREAT mowers. Once the keyway and spring get too gummed up to move freely, the rear wheels lock up and the mower doesn't want to turn when you lift the front wheels (push down on the handle) to make a corner.

A LeBlanc I am going to clean them up and oil them properly thanks Allen.
@nateintx40989 жыл бұрын
A LeBlanc My neighbor put this on the curb for free so I grabbed it and noticed the wheels don't drive it. The question is, is the faulty part inside the transmission being a gear or what you are saying, the keyways and springs? I just removed the rear wheels and cleaned out the area of the spring and keyway. I am curious if I should reassemble without using lube or should I put a dab of grease in there or a spray of WD40 or silicone spray?
@aleblanc35479 жыл бұрын
Nate, Water is the enemy, but wd-40 won't hold up. Use a heavy grease to both keep the parts moving freely and the water out. I'm 99 percent sure it's the springs and keyway and not the tranny. Great mower once you get the drive system going.
@nateintx40989 жыл бұрын
doublewide6 I lubed those parts up and assembled everything properly and the wheels still don't go when engaged. I now assume that the problem is within the transmission instead of being the spring and keyway.
@aleblanc35479 жыл бұрын
Nate In TX I'm shocked because that transmission is nearly bullet proof. If the drive gears are not installed in the the correct orientation, they will not engage the wheels. The other thing I regret not mentioning is an adjustment on the drive cable. Try lenghtening the coupling screw on the drive cable (near the mower deck) by backing it out. If that doesn't help and the transmission shaft is not turning, your transmission may actually be a bad one.

Did you need a puller to get the pulley off? I’m about ready to throw this mower across the street. Went out and bought a punch set but the ends are tapered so that pin won’t come all the way out. I think it’s out far enough to remove the pulley but that sucker is on there good. Any help is appreciated.
