AVE Bassboy vs AVE Bigboy!

Comparing the two AVE subwoofers in all of their glory, testing out how powerful the amps are and how other drivers fair in there boxes!

The AVE Bigboy uses a Enclosure called a "Folded horn design" #oldschool. This is the most efficient type of enclosure design since it can reproduce very low frequencies withouth using alot of space in your living room or a conert area. The Folded Horn design is usually used outdoors because of its efficiency. Correct me if im wrong :)

rextonkiller97 actually folded horns need to be massive in order to make low frequencies (my definition of low frequency is below 35hz), but you are correct that they are more efficient

Did you get around to trying the Skytec SP1500 driver in a cabinet? I think you'll find despite its modest power handling it is quite efficient and goes down to 40 Hz (@ - 3db) with ease, making it a good full range driver in a 2-way system sans subwoofer. IIRC its used in Rockford and Seismic Audio stuff in the US and is a typical entry level JBL clone ex China.

rear loaded horn design, the piece of wood with the "ave" logo on the front may help for upper bass response since it's located at an angle relative to the woofer, the "port" on the bottom really isn't a port it's just the rest of the mouth of the horn, you can design this kind of box relatively easily on the free program hornresp

Appreciate the b@lls-n-all tear 'em up online reviews of some Aussie market stuff; read good online reviews of the original AVE Bassboy, due to its quality driver IIRC. Even some of the Skytronic 'studio' stuff is value at its entry level price point.

Horns are much more efficient than ported or bandpass enclosures but to get any response under 40hz from a horn it needs to be massive.. making it useless for low bass. 6th order bandpasses offer the best of both worlds in my opinion and are arguably smaller than tapped horns and play a much wider bandwidth although nothing plays high notes better than horns

It's pretty funny, the bigboys element is the box speaker 15-300/8A that costs about 66€XDD And those subs cost like 500 buck?? wtf went wrong.. i dont think that box+amp makes up for that 440€...

I record with the same tripod you are using for your light. They SUCK! I have had mine for only 2 or 3 years and there are 2 things broken on it. One of the things you tighten just spins and spins (in fact it came that way out of the box.) That meant my recording device used to fall over to the side all the time. I solved the issue with tape. The other thing that broke is the plastic handle used to change where the device is pointed. The plastic feet also fall off. If you also have issues with yours, then I know not to get another one to replace it.
