I am deeply touched of the character of Thomas. Jesus showed His compassion , love and mercy not only to Thomas , disciples but to us
@elitster4 жыл бұрын
Beautiful. I’ve never felt that Thomas was any less of an apostle. He was only asking for what the others had seen and been a part of. Why is that so bad? Who knows where he was during the initial gathering. If anything he may have felt left out. The Savior in his tender mercy answers and loves the one.
@messagesofChrist4 жыл бұрын
Yup, that is what I feel. How many of us would not have felt the same way.

Hi Eric, so true, all of us do have moments of doubt just as Thomas. We also don’t want to be labeled based on one moment in time. Jesus appeared to the disciples who were in the upper room and spoke peace unto them and then showed them his hands and side. The disciples were glad. However., after this event is where I think Thomas being labeled comes in. After the disciples tell Thomas that they saw the Lord, its more than normal for Thomas to want to see him as well. However, Thomas continues to say to the disciples, except I see in his hands the print of the nails, put his finger in the print of the nail and thrust his hand in his side he will not believe. The text in John 20 does not indicate that when Jesus showed himself to the other disciples that they needed to do all those things to believe it was Jesus. The text indicates that Jesus stood in the mist and shewed them his hands and side and they were glad. The text does not indicate that the other disciples even asked to see his hands and side. Jesus simply showed them. Thomas on the other hand made it plain that in order for him to believe it was Jesus he would need to do those 3 things I listed which is why I think Brother Thomas gets a bad rap. This is just my take. You got to love Thomas in my opinion for his boldness and honesty.

Looking forward to asking Thomas where he was when he missed seeing the resurrected Jesus the first time and how he was feeling in the whole week of silence till he did see Him. We are looking at this passage on Sunday coming. One of my favourite moments in the gospel. Also to know that Jesus heard every word Thomas had said the week before without being physically present. So blessed to have such a wonderful account of our brother Thomas and how Jesus is so compassionate and loving with him. Blessings to you and yours ❤🙏🏼

Jesus KNEW Thomas would not be there, but He chose that time anyway. I believe He did it in order to provide this teaching moment to Thomas. This was no accident.

So much damage has been on a man and to the Religious world by the first utterance that Thomas was doubting and so much truth went unspoken. I find there is so much to be learned about characters less written of in scripture that the truly seeking eye and heart find, understands and cherishes.

It was on an evening in 1999, when I found myself in the emergency room of The Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Springs, Maryland. I had puncture wounds in both of my wrists (not self inflicted), and as I was waiting for the doctor, the film about Jesus (starring Jeremy Sisto, Debra Messing, and others) was playing on the TV monitor. I watched the scene in it based on John 20:24-31, and right after the doctor showed up. 20 years later, I am at my brother's deathbed, and I was reading from 1 John to him, and singing to him as well; and standing by my side was my earliest childhood friend, Jonathan. Back in 1984, Jonathan was working for Prince when he made his 'Purple Rain' album, including the song-'I Would Die For You'. When I started to read John 11, my mother, who was also there at the time, got all upset and asked me to stop. Her name is Martha. Mother Martha (my mother, that is) has a best friend named Mary. They often have lunch together. My late brother, who was a musician, had a songwriting partner who was actually in the same room with Neil Diamond as he was working on the song-"I'm A Believer". I've gotten so many amazing signs and wonders, how could I have been a non-believer for so long? Indeed, blessed are those who've believed before they've seen! Amen.

Everyone says "Doubting Thomas", I SAY, Thomas was just wanting to know the truth, loved his beloved "Rabbi" and would accept no substitutes. He was also the first who wanted to die WITH Jesus, because the thought of living without his beloved "Rabbi" was more than Thomas could bear. You may say Thomas doubted, you may say John was the "Apostle Jesus loved", but Thomas, I believe, was the disciple "who loved Jesus"....And , dare, I say it, he loved him more than his own life itself. And did he "doubt"? Might I ask, have all of us had our times of doubt? And, perhaps more importantly, "Do you love him any less for it?"

I always hated the name "Doubting Thomas." It to me is an incredibly disrespectful epithet for an apostle of the Lord, because it summarizes his entire existence and legacy around a single week of doubt, completely disregarding the faith he must have had throughout his life.

Jesus Christ, the Lord, gave himself a ransom for all. By faith are we justified; and not by the law. For if we seek to fulfill righteousness through the law we shall perish. For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Therefore hath God begotten us a lively hope by the ressurection of Christ Jesus. And if ye be led of the Spirit ye abide in Christ. For Christ has fulfilled the law. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ he is none of his. As many of us who were baptized into Christ were baptized unto his death that we should live through Christ in us who is risen incorruptible. Now if any man have not been baptized into Christ he has yet to have an answer of a good conscience toward God. But if we indeed be baptized into Christ we then receive the answer of a good conscience toward God through the remission of sins. For it is written, blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered. For by our faith in the gospel we receive righteousness. For it is written, I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth. Blessed is the man who receives remission of sins by faith in the gospel. Even by baptism in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. For even by the faith of a mustard seed, Naaman was cleansed of his leprosy when he dipped in the Jordan river seven times by word of the prophet Elisha. How much more shall we by faith, receive remission of our sins when we obey the word of the Lord? Blessed are the TRUTH seekers that have ears to hear, amen.

Do we know where Jesus was when he didn't appear during the forty days between the resurrection and the ascension? For example, where was Jesus in the week between appearing to the disciples when Thomas wasn't there, and appearing when Thomas was there? Sincere question from a believer✝️
@earthfaith4 жыл бұрын
It seems here that Thomas doubted not the resurrection but rather the death of Jesus.
@Hala-ataaАй бұрын
Is it possible that Thomas was Jesus’ son, and that’s why they called him “Twin?” I have a few supporting reasons for this idea: Jesus was 28-29 when he began His ministry, and Jewish boys typical sought a discipleship around ages 12-13. So Jesus could have fathered Him at age 17. The ages add up just fine. Also, why was Thomas the only one who hadn’t seen the risen Lord the first time He appeared? It’s possible that Thomas was still gone doing the ritual cleansing required after handling a dead body. And typically, no one prepared a body for burial except the family member of the deceased. Also, who was the boy in Gethsemane who wouldn’t leave Jesus, having to escape by stripping off his clothes when they tried to grab him? Was it Thomas? Lastly, was Thomas a “doubter,” or was the reason he didn’t believe that Christ was risen simply that he had been so heartbroken over losing his dad? And when told that He was risen, he simply couldn’t believe it at the risk of being heartbroken all over again?
