Rachel Hoppe Easier said than done. I think when people stress eat it's more of a control issue. Food is the one thing they can control in their lives and so they shovel it down in order to get the comfort from knowing they have power over something.

Um, super easily? Just because you’re a wuss with a weak stomach doesn’t mean everyone is. I would sit and watch surgeries on both humans and pigs with my dad when I was a kid. I’d mostly play while he took notes, but I still took in a good deal of what was happening. My dad is a surgical tool designer and has been nearly my whole life. He says when they get new interns at his company, the first time they watch a surgery there’s only two reactions- one, be grossed out and quickly decide medical device design isn’t their thing, or two, be totally fascinated.

Jaydan Berryhill - I saw my first human surgery when I was 3. I’m told my reaction was to tell my dad, “daddy, youwe gwoss!” before I stormed off. Gotta love 3 year olds. Dad was watching tapes of surgeries on our tv. I grew up during the era of VHS and homes only having a single tv. And no, my dad’s not some kind of serial killer, lol. He’s a mechanical engineer and surgical tool designer and he actually designed some of the tools in this clip. (He designed the Excel bladeless trocar and holds patents on it. Alas, he was firmly employed when he worked on it, so his employer gets the proceeds.) I went into the other kind of product design, industrial design, and worked at the same company as my dad as an intern, then did a brief internship later with a company that designs tools for a different type of weight loss surgery, the gastric sleeve. It’s neat stuff and even if you’re not inclined to go to medical school, there are other ways to be involved in that field.
