Truly one of the best steel guitarists to ever play the instrument, and a super nice guy too!!!

I have been a great admirer of Doug for over forty years and he is beyond incredible and yes a genuine nice guy, that's a dedicated Christian. Nuff said. What a treasured performance.

I've been a "weekend warrior" here in the Boston area for over a half century (yikes) and now it's dobros (resophonic guitars) but the SOUND of a well played Pedal Steel, is....words fail me here,.....just SPECIAL. To say the least! Scotty has done so much, to make the music of this wonderful instrument available to the general (uninformed) public, through his INTERNATIONAL STEEL GUITAR CONVENTION.I'm just glad that I've had the chance to have had the pleasure of knowing about this instrument, and in my own humble way, had a chance to play. It was a real "trip." Oh and the sound guy on this show HAD to be a drummer......geez!!!

Amazing set by the greatest player of all time. His A Capella of "The Lord's Prayer" at 17:18 is inspirational!

The song is "Take Me As I Am" (or let me go). Little Jimmy Dickens, among others recorded it.

i didn't see any answer to the song beginning at 14:43...if someone else beat me to it, i apologize...in case they didn't, it is "surely the presence (of the Lord is in this place)"...doug plays this at every performance...
@gbuffaloe112 жыл бұрын
The song is "Home In San Antone"....Bob Wills & Tommy Duncan. Not a Jimmy Dickens tune as mistakenly stated below.

Grandmaster Jernigan! Cut the drummer some slack guys he was playing on a rock kit and some brushed would have helped true.

I sure wish he'd record a CD with as little backup as possible - I have his jazz CDs and there's so much piano & rhythm guitars it's hard to hear his great chord work. I'm GLAD he has so many friends... and if I want to hear them I'd rather buy their CDs! (not...) ;-)

When Doug turns around and looks at the drummer and pats his chest in the tempo he wants and the drummer takes off in that tempo it means he is a good drummer. Doug, in my opinion, is not up in the mix enough and the drummer is a little too hot. Since it is a "Steel Guitar Jam" the steel player is featured and should be up in the mix. IMHO

I agree, the snare drum could have been a little softer. Doug Jernigan is my favourite steel player.

Drummers (when not soloing) should go to the ride symbol & pronounced back beat for chorus parts. This feller is playing so hard he doesn't realize he's rushing at times'

Don't know whether to put out a contract on the drummer or the sound man, but one of them was responsible for ruining this performance.

Doug is a great steel player. BUT those dam drums. I have played for 57 years on steel guitar and am still playing, Many times I have turned around and told the dam drummers that they play as a sideman and not as a SOLOIST MUSICIAN. My apology to a lot of great drummers who know how to play drums and not try to be a soloist. Regards.

Is this video professionally produced by "Gilley's Place", or is this somebody's cell phone. The volume on the various instruments is out of balance.

The problem with the drums is not his playing but rather too much on the overhead mike, mixer man is drunk.

@brianzaborowski272411 жыл бұрын
Jeeez ... tell the drummer to tone it down, he's louder than what people came to hear in the first place .... Steel!, not a drummer trying to drown out the star of the show.

The poor drummer doesn't know that he is ruining this song. Those who control the different instruments volume are at fault.
