Well done, Doug. The last couple of days I have been missing possible answers. Today I thought the solution was between “spool” and “sloop”. Nope! Then I went through all combinations with a scowl on my face and finally saw the answer and smiled. 😊 So a “4” for me today. Stare- dOiLy- SpOoL- SCOWL

A four for me today. LEARN ("L" out of position... nothing else.) GUILT ("L" out of position. Only classic vowel left is "O". SLOOP (""S" in position, a single "O" in position. "L" still out of position. "L" must be fifth letter in solution.) SCOWL (That's It. Good for a four-word solve..)

Decided to follow you on the opening first word of BRAIN. Then I paused the video and did my own solve using SMELT; SLOOP; and SCOWL. I prefer using as many consonants as possible bc I can usually suss out the vowel.

I may have to try your advice. My pattern has always been to try and identify vowels first and then fill in the consonants. Audio followed by an "e" word is my general pattern.

You actually nailed it with your analysis after guess 3. Scoff, scold, and scowl were indeed the only 3 words left for your. I put your info into the wordle solver and thewordfinder and it came up with those 3 and Scows, but it can't be scows because it's plural.

I ended up getting this in four. After STARE and DOILY, I had the S in green, as well as an O and an L somewhere. I had three strong candidates (spool, sloop, and scowl) and went for SPOOL. After taking a few minutes to look through every possible combination to see if I was missing anything, I concluded that it had to be SCOWL. And it was.

I was struggling for an alternative 5 letter start word for brain and in the end came up with CLOUT (as in to brain someone!). I had a late wobble with using ahead instead but was so glad I went with clout as from there it was an easy 2 solve! No SCOWLing from me!
