The best part about these Golf R's is that you can get an APR Stage 1 tune for $500 that brings the power up to 370hp, torque to 380ft-lb, 0-60mph to 3.5s, and slightly improves fuel economy in city driving, without sacrificing reliability. The thing absolutely rips with that tune, way faster than any of its competitors.
@nycyabber71032 жыл бұрын
To anyone reading this, APR tunes have been deemed unsafe from users who have put on some decent mileage on their car which is why they discontiuned their support for the MK7/8V platform. EQT has been the new go-to. Their tunes are weaker in the low-end torque range but this prioritizes reliability and has been proven to be the new standard tune for those who want a power increase and want to keep their car running for a long time.

If I had one as a daily driver, I would constantly be annoyed by the comparatively harsh ride and the interior (overall design - all those weird angled vents, the nasty center console, and quality, e.g. all the shiny plastic). Like Doug said, the Golf R is just a much nicer place to be in if you use it as a daily driver or for a longer trip, especially if you use it as a family car. E.g. I could not imagine taking my 70 year old mom on a longer trip to visit relatives in a Civic Type R or a Focus RS, but she thinks my Golf 7 GTI (interior-wise basically the same as the Golf R) is a very comfortable car to travel in. Of course it helps to have the adaptive dampers and put them in comfort mode :-)

Hi Doug, I write owner's manuals for a Japanese car maker in Europe and can corfirm your story; IT TRULY GOES LIKE THAT. Someone wins a lawsuit, we receive a notice to add a Warning or Caution to cover it. 30% of modern day owner's manuals consist of Warnings and Cautions just because of lawsuits. Common sense is not so common anymore.

Close. Netherlands. But it depends; Sometimes we physically validate prototype vehicles (pre-production vehicles without VIN) when the model is completely new. In regards to the gas stations, many people use various oil company cards. I was on a family trip through Europe and we were using a Shell card, and it's so nice being able to select specific gas stations on the navigation to avoid all those annoying small Italian and French gas stations that don't accept the card or maybe doesnt even take foreign cards xD

This and the fact fuel is not quite the same. Sure for the most part is. And it all comes from the same place. But it’s not like he’s saying on the video. A car guy would know best. Specially within the biggest companies. They buy the same fuel but then what they add, the additives, is what tells them apart. So yes, a feature like that is useful when you know what you want to buy and don’t want loose time chasing fuel stations on the map that you don’t want to go to. For those who can’t tell the difference then yes it may come as an useless and stupid option. But it’s not the option that’s stupid. It’s who gets triggered by having it.

Hi Doug, The reason for the 'strange' Vehicle Status notice you had is as follows: It's all to do with the engine auto start/stop system, that most Americal car youtubers seem to detest. The start/stop system must have been active and had stopped the engine before you undid your seatbelt. As soon as you do that it triggers the start/stop system to restart the engine, so that you know not to just get out of the car thinking its actually off. Hence the status message. Hope this is clear! :-) Jonathan

The engine and seatbelt status is for the stop start system. As a salesman I can’t explain why... because I don’t know why it bothers. but if u don’t have ur seatbelt on the stop start will refuse to work. Try driving around. Stop at some lights. Watch as the stop start shuts down the engine. Then take ur seatbelt off. And guaranteed the engine will kick back in. For some reason. Same with opening a door
@cjeam91996 жыл бұрын
Ginger Brit Huh. I drove a ford minibus where if you did either of those things the engine wouldn’t turn _back on_ . This was exceedingly bloody annoying when the door sensor broke and would intermittently think the door was open: you’d stop at a light, start stop would kick in, and then you were fucked and had to cycle the ignition.

One of the magazines just did a comparison, and even though the Focus RS, and the others were rated at more power, the Golf R was faster in the 1/4 mile, and on a road course.
